I recently shot a full size M&P 9 at a friends range and was more consistent than I have ever been with my G23. I am considering trading it for a M&P 9 Compact or Shield 9mm, but cant decide which.
I have the opportunity to trade for a Compact, but have been leaning more towards the Shield due to the edge it has over the Compact in concealment. The problem is, It seems like Shields without the safety are pretty hard to come by in my area. For those of you who have one or both, which one do you carry and why? If you already had a full size M&P would that effect your decision at all? |

i have fullsize, compact and shield. i carry the shield most of the time, when i have more form fitting clothes. and ill carry my compact with loose fitting clothes. i carry both equally IWB. although lately i have been carrying my compact more because of the capacity, able to use fullsize mags with grip extension.
get both, and you will be happy. |

This. I have all 3 as well and carry the shield all the time. I'd only carry the compact if it was cool out and wearing a jacket, gangster hoodie, etc.

I have all 3 sizes.
I go back and forth between the C and the Shield (AIWB) depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going. The C can be a bit much to conceal if you're in a light shirt whereas the Shield can be a waste of a good opportunity if you're in heavy clothes or your favorite pair of too comfy jeans. I would carry the C every time, every where if I could get the right combo of holster and clothing. |

I wear t shirts and shorts every single day and have no issues concealing it. I also wear athletic fit clothing so it's tighter - still no problems |

I've got an M&P9c. I carry it when I'm able. Previoulsy I carried a Sig P6. I don't have any issues with concealment (that I know of) and am not bothered by the weight of the M&P9c as it's lighter than my P6 and holds more rounds.
In the cooler months and winter time it is replaced with my Sig P220. |

The shield is the best EDC pistol made to date for summer clothing IMHO. Full caliber, but still very slim, and it shoots like a full size handgun...
I absolutely love mine, and I used to carry a G19 for EDC even though I own a G26 (same size as M&Pc) because it (G19) is just as concealable as the G26. Where the Sheild really shines is the fact that it's THIN, which makes it so concealable. I will add though, my father owns the .40 Shield and I fucking hate that pistol, way too much snap for my liking and I'm not recoil sensitive at all, so I would only recommend the 9mm variant. |

I love my Shield, it is my most concealable IWB gun that I can wear with all my clothing. I prefer the safety model, my personal preference. I find double stacks print more and my 9c just sits in the safe until winter. THe Shield is also the most comfortable pistol to use, very ergonomic. But it's a tool, the right gun for the right job. |
| I don't have an "emotional attachment" to any brand name. I respect and admire the Glock design after many years of using it and comparing it to others. I actually think Glock has some real problems as a brand and as a company. But the basic Glock design is proven and its what I shoot the best. Partly because I've carried one for nearly 20 years, I still instinctively think of the G19/23 as the best all-round pistol ever made (and it still is). I'm certainly far from being alone in that assessment. That said, after carrying the Shield back-to-back against it on and off for over a year, I think the Shield is close on its heels for general civilian use. If it had the ability to mount a QD light and if 10 rd mags were available for it would be virtually perfect. |

I find that the 19/23 sized Glocks should never be the standard. Anthropometry play's a huge part in the selection process with many people, but sometimes I settle for less because there is no better options out there. If I ever did have need for a G19 sized pistol (which I do not, too bulky for IWB carry), then it would be the 228 or the 229 in 9x19.
I heard a rumor that Glock will be releasing a 9x19 single stack pretty soon, so all is not lost or will be painful since you prefer only Glocks. |

I'm a huge Sig fanboy and love the P229, but to even imply that the P229 carries like a G19 is a dream at best. The slide with being a little wider is not the problem, it the decoker and wider grips that make the P229 a fat pig compared to the G19. Not to mention its a lot heavier. This is coming from someone who bought a P229 to replace my G19 because I prefer a DA/SA Sig... |

| MY M&P40c disappears on me in a Comp-Tac Minotaur holster even in athletic shorts and a Under Armor shirt. Nobody has ever noticed it and it wears so comfortably I almost forget it's there. I can fit the 40Shield in the same holster with just an extra quarter turn on the retaining screws and it carries even a bit better. I vote to get both because they are great pistols and each have their own roles. Carry the Shield when you absolutely have to have zero printing and clothing is super restrictive. Carry the M&Pc when your dress is just a bit more relaxed. I also have a M&P40 midsize for HD duty with all the Apex upgrades. It's extremely reliable, very accurate pistol with the best trigger in a polymer available... |

I used the 8rd mag exclusively until I got one of those Pearce thumb extensions for the 7rd mag. Now it's as easy to shoot with the 7rd mag as it is with the 8, but still conceals as well as the stock 7rd mag. I carry an 8rd as a spare usually. If I'm wearing a heavier shirt I'll still use an 8rd mag in the gun. I found the gun much, much more difficult to shoot well with the stock 7rd mag, compared to the 8rd. Thankfully the Pearce extensions are like $10 or so. |

I have no trouble shooting with my pinky hanging off the grip, and it conceals better. Carry the 8 rd mags as spares. My only complaint with the short grip on the Shield is that I pinch the shit out of my hands when changing magazines. |
