I like reading everyone's ideas when someone posts that question so now it's my trn I guess.
After chewing tobacco for 15-20 years I have officially stopped! So I'm going to reward myself with another 1911. My budget is 1500 maybe a tiny bit more. I'm already a kimber fan. I only have 5" 1911 now so maybe a 4" I would use it to carry and the occasional idpa shoot. Has to be tuff and accurate. I have been reading up on Dan wesson s lately they seam nice |

I would love a les baer. Only thing is I am to scared to spend that much on a gun without holding it and inspecting it myself. But u never know. I did see one in the EE. I missed out on a used Les Baer TRS locally last year for $1500. It made me sick because I could have actually looked at the gun before I bought it. |

It is your choice but you asked
The answer to many 1911 questions is COLT Yeah I know it many times meanes buying a gun then paying someone to "tune" it and get it where you want but a Colt is a Colt Everything else is just a copy Your budget should get you a Colt with decent sights, upgraded trigger and a action job. |

Thanks for the replys. I read a high end shoot out last night. I'll try and find the link again. But a guy tested 5 1911s the dw was the least expensive. In the end the author was most impressed with the dw. Said the worst part in a dw gun is from Ed brown! Apparently they use a lot of Ed brown parts and after disassembly he couldn't find any bad parts.
I think I'll be looking at them first. Still have to glance over at the kimbers though. |

Went to the only Dan Wesson dealer in my area today. No valors. To be found. He did have an Eco and also a gaurdian in 45 and one in 9mm. I liked both. I think the gaurdian would be my pic if I had to choose between those 2. I can't find any info about why the valor series is their top of line versus the other ones? I did read that no matter which model u get none of them have any mim parts at all!
I handled a comparable kimber exact same price as the gaurdian. Kimber had a plastic mainspring housing and a few mim parts. All of the dw 1911 s that I handled seamed perfect! I also handled a Springfield trp. Felt cheap compared to the dw and the kimber. |

The Kimber had a plastic MSH yet the TRP felt cheap??? I'd take the TRP over any Kimber made. |

My TRP is a really nice pistol. |

The Dan Wessons are going to be your best bet. And yes the Valor is their top of the line gun mostly because of the features. All DWs have tool steel firing controls and NO MIM. I have DW Guardian and can tell you it is an excellent pistol accurate and almost to the level of my Baer. If you look around the net you may find a new SS Valor for $1400, black Duty Finish is going to be $1700 or so. Les Baer Premier II can be had at $1800, I've got about $2000 in my Concept III with upgrades. |
