Are there any particular mags out there to avoid for a Colt Model 70 MKIV?

I've seen comments about cproducts having a few lemons here and there in their shipments but in the days when you were paying $7 apiece it was not a big deal I guess.

The ones that your gun doesn't like.  I've read what seems like a thousand mag discussions here and for every one that gets a bad rap, people chime in and claim no issues at all.  Don't be afraid of Colt mags.  I've never had a single issue with them in either 70 or 80 series Colts (7 or 8 rounders).  I've personally had bad experience with Wilson 47D's, but many swear by them.  I've also had no issues with many Springfield factory mags, but others think they're crap.  Go figure.

Don't buy any of the garbage bargain mags from Sportsmansguide. I bought some that said something like "mil spec" they were garbage "National Mag". They were so fucked up they wouldn't even fit in my gun! National Mag is somehow worse than the old USA brand mags.
Stick to brand names like Spring field, McCormick, Metal Form and MecGar. Also only buy these mags from a reputable company like midway USA. Companies like Sportsmans guide and cheaper than dirt seem to only sell 2nds that aren't fit for regular retail.

At gun shows you'll see some 1911 mags that have a rounded follower , run don't walk .

Chip MCorMack
Tripp
Wilson Combat
Colt
Checkmate
Mec-Gar

You're going to find that this question doesn't have a single correct answer other than to try some out and see what your pistol likes. What one person's 1911 loves, another 1911 hates.

Most 1911's I hear about on the internet like Wilson Combat 47D's... and Chip MCorMack... Tripp's also are usually highly recommended. Of course, Colt should work on your pistol as well but there's no Guarantee.

I ordered some 47D's direct from Wilson last night.

They are at most vendors.

Have you checked out the 47DC? It's an 8rd mag like the "standard" 47D, but it comes with a low profile steel baseplate instead of that big plastic one.

I have that gun.  The only bad experience I has was with USGI mags I got from Ammoman each sealed in a paper and foil pouch, many years ago.  They were made of soft steel.  Look at them wrong and they would deform and either not work or not drop free.

Colt
Chip McCormick
Les Baer
Wilson Combat
Check-Mate
Have all been good to go for me

I used to have a few 7rd Pachmayr mags with rounded followers that worked perfectly in all five of my 1911's.
