I have a springfield loaded that's been sitting in a safe for years. It's finally mine and I noticed that the slide is hard to start back onto the frame... Almost as if the slide has been crushed in slightly. Also, the thumb safety does not stick firmly in the off position. It moves down in inactive position under thumb pressure another 1/8 of an inch or so. I'm not sure if my dad bought it new, or registered it.
Does anybody know if springfield actually cares if you were the original owner? Do they send prepaid shipping labels? Anyone have ideas on their standard turn around time? Thanks! |

when i called to have my loaded sent in for work the very nice lady on the phone didn't even ask if i was original owner, or if i had sent in the warranty card.
I explained the issue. told her that i had fired about 700 rounds through it and was still having the same issues. without hesitation, she said that i should send it in for repairs. emailed me a RMA packing slip, told me to take it to FedEx and answered all questions i had. got the gun back about 2 weeks later with a note as to what they had done to fix the problem. issues were failure to feed and hard 3 point jams. repair shop polished feed ramp and "tuned the extractor." Gun still had issues. took it to a reputable smith i know who said the extractor hadn't really been "tuned." showed me that the firing pin stop was very loose and the extractor was able to rotate slightly. fitted a new EGW stop and did some work to the extractor hook. I haven't taken it back out to see if it works. |

Getting the slide started on the frame is not a bad thing, sounds like you have a tight slide to frame fit, not really a bad thing.
Personally I'd pull the thumb saftey and remove the spring pluger from the tube add fresh oil re oil the rails and re try frist. Cost you only 4 drops of oil. |
