I saw an Argentinian BHP at the local gun show today and was wondering if it was a decent deal because I have no idea about their quality. It looked like it was in good shape with normal wear and the finish appeared to be parkerized or something similar. The guy had it priced at $425, so was this a good deal or could I do better? Thanks for your expertise. |

IMO, $425 is a bit high. See if you can get him down by ~ $30 or so.
Yes, the Argy's are a good HP. Got one back in 1996 and have a little over 13,000 rounds through it. Makes a nice low cost ($229 in 1996) to my MKIII. They are under license post 1962 HiPowers. FM also introduced the M95, which has the firing pin safety. |

i think there were several versions of them.
when i had my FFL, i brought in 3 of them. they all had machine marks on the outside slide and frame. iirc, they were also painted in black and there wasnt any box or instructions. they only came in a styrofoam clamshell box. what really surprised me was that they shot just as good as my fiends Belgium BHP. iirc, i paid about 250 ea for them back in the 80s. not sure how much they go for now tho since i dont see them offered FS alot. |
| I have one that is the "base" model. It does not have the rib on top of the slide, dark black parkerizing-looks like every other P35 in the world etc....I paid $200 for it at a gunshow about three years ago in very good condition-guy was just looking to unload it for some quick cash. It has alot of tool marks but every "Browning" part that I have fitted to it has dropped right in and it shoots as well as any of my other guns. I had a local smith cut the slide for a set of Novak sights, put on a set of the rubber Spiegel grips, added a Browning single sided banana safety and removed the magazine disconnect. I carry it from time to time. A good, inexpensive pistol. |
| I paid $250 used for my 95 a couple years back. Money well spent. The quality is every bit as good as my brother's FN, which is itself darn nice. As long as I live, the pistol will be in my possession. Try to get the price down a bit, and you'd be golden. I've heard from numerous sources that the steel quality is the best of the Hi Power pattern pistol, even better than the FN or Brownings. The Argentines know their firearms. |
