So just how bad are they

I was thinking about buying one of the 38 supers and converting it to 9mm down the road

I have a feeling it wont work but if anyone would know it is you guys

Lets hear it

If anyone has a good idea to get into a cheaper 9mm 1911 I would be all ears

Thanks

The Springfields aren't cheaper, but they make a quality 1911 and they offer them in 9mm.  So, youmight consider saving just a bit longer and getting a Springfield.  The customer service has a very good reputation as well.

I don't know that Armcor still offers their products under their own name as far as 1911s go.  Rock Island, and High Standard use Armscor 1911s under their name.

I don't know if RI has a 9mm though.  If they do it should be affoardable, and they have a good reputation for customer service as well.  The parts are mostly cast, and MIM parts, to keep the cost down.  This shouldn't be a problem for a casual shhoting gun though.

The rock island guns are the ones I am talking about

They do list several 9mm's on their website but I dont think they have imported them in a while or else this would be a easy choice. The 9mm tactical looks like a good starter gun.

I really like the springfields but they are considerably more expensive

The Armscor/Rock Island 1911 pistols are good, I have their Tactical Model and haven't had any problems out of it. As far as I know, they don't make a 1911 chambered in 9mm, only .38 and .45. All of their 9mm pistols that I have seen are of a different design. Armscor 9mm Don't see why a Rock Island couldn't be converted to 9mm like any other 1911 or look at other brands if you don't want to convert one.
