I'm building my brother a 1911. So far I have a complete gun but I want to do some tricks to it. Is it possible to add a tactical rail to the front bottom of the 1911 frame? I have a gunsmith with the tools and ability, I just need to know if there are parts available and where they are. The pistol is an auto ordnance us army model .45. It is parkerized and I am not worried about the finish as it is not complete. I don't want to spend 260.00 for a Caspian frame.

Thanks,
Rick

The receiver is casted, so in keep that in mind if you plan on peening the rails to tighten up frame to slide fit (not real sure you find anyone to weld/re-mill the rails on an AA frame) .

Also, the reason that the Caspian forged frame is so desirable for building is that they machine the frame to tighter demensions, so less work is required to build a tight pistol.

Now back to your tactical rail question, being that the AA frame is casted, don't plan on hanging too much weight off the frame in fear that it will cause the shield to snap.

Cast frames can and sometimes are of high quality, and the dust cover can definitely withstand the weight of a light and rail on most 1911s.  Caspian has both forged and cast receivers, and both are very strong.

As far as a rail goes, there are numerous threads regarding what is good and the benefits of the different sytems available.  If you don't want to spend too much, order the recon rail from Caspian.  It's $45, and very easy to install.  It will accept all standard lights that fit on a Picatinny rail.
