VERY hit and miss.

I've have two, both run OK, but one needs new front sight (it detached itself during shooting). They do not like cheep mags.

Not a bad deal, if it runs, but I'd want to shoot it first. Otherwise, I'd probably look at Rock Island or Springfield.

Auto-Ords 1911s are one of several cheap ass crappy 1911s that give the 1911 a bad reputation with the unwashed.

Skip it.

$100 more and you can get a Springield GI.

Don't think that Gen Thompson was the first to start Auto-ordinance,cause he was!  The early Auto-Ordinance Tommy guns and pistol were made in Spain  Orliander and were machined by Caspian arms, then hand fitted at New Hearly  NY!

Thats right machined by Caspian!  You think that guns made by Thompson are bad?

I think not they have the Thompson arrow on the grips, and I don't think caspian is that great a gun maker, just not any better than Thompson even Auto-Ordinance  has a pinned in ejector!

Caspian lowers have a built into frame ejector!

Kind of hard to fix it!  plus you ever shoot a 10mil bull?

You are wrong and have no idea of what you speek!  You have never owened one or shot one!  you are a big bag of wind!

You want to shoot a 10mil bull let me know,if you have not shot one, then shut the fuck up!

You talk about things you know nothing about, just pass on bullshit !

Others will say yes the Thompson Auto -ordinance sucks just like Kahr!!

You don't  know shit about AO and you should have said that from the start!

I've heard bad things about Auto Ordnance 1911s, and my M1927A1 Thompson Semi-Automatic Carbine was a POS. Machine work was beautiful on that steel, though. Just wouldn't feed at all.

+1  on the Springfield GI model (usually in the $450 range)!  Better warranty & customer service too!

If you REALLY want one in the $350 range, buy a Rock Island Armory GI mdoel and you'll get a similarly low-cost GI gun to the Auto Ord, but the QC is better and they're more reliable.  But I ***HIGHLY*** recommend spending the $100 more for the Springer GI.

Had one.  Worked fine.  Got rid of it because the mil spec sites just didn't work with my eyesight.

Never owned or fired one...Only know what ive heard so ill spare you on that.

My personal recomendation in that price range would be the RIA. I personally own 2 and am going to get my third. There warranty and customer service is hard to beat.

I held a Auto Ordnance M1911A1 WWII-style .45 last night at my local fun shop.

It was... gross. It felt almost like I was holding a glock, 'cept the grip angle was correct. The grip shape was not rounded at all. The front strap of the grip was almost square. The finish was very rough, as was the magazine. The safety switch turned on and off with absolutely no feedback. No click, no feel. The safety worked, just couldn't tell when it was on or off. Trigger pull was... decent.

The KAHR A-O`S probably have better q-c than the originals....but in reality, Lumpy`s right. How bout` a nice, used, liteweight officers for $449. ? Saw one yesterday.....excellent condition. Look around....ya know?   ..

I fired my BIL's AO and it seemed to be fine. If I came across one and the price was right I think I would buy one.

I have 2 older AO's.Both shoot fine, but  you can't swap out the fire controls and grip safety between the two.If you do one wont pass any of the safety tests and the other ends up with a 10 pound trigger pull.Personly I wouldn't buy a new one,but if I came across a good deal on a used one I'd probably get it.

Yeah get a Springfield. Just like mentioned above I had the same thing happen to me as well where the sight came off the other day. I wish now that I would have gotten a Springfield or a Colt. Not to mention my AO 1911 kept stove piping on me. Me I am gonna have my sight fixed and then sell it and get a Colt 1991 or a Springfield 1911A1 Mil Spec since I like the classic 1911 style as opposed to the newer styles like on Kimber and Para and all them.

I'll stay on course SGB.

Seriously, take it from someone who poured tons of money into an AO and NEVER got it to run right til the day I dumped it. I could have bought a brand new top of the line 1911 to begin with with the $$$$, not to mention the time.

Some guys have had good luck with them, and I won't deny it. However, the chances of getting a lousy one is pretty darn good. To good to get me to waste my money on them when there are better companies and better 1911s out there for a bit more money. What costs you less in the beginning can cost you much more in the end.

And if and when you sell it, this will be your typical look as soon as they see it's a AO.

However, it's your money.....................

It only took me and Gravity Tester three days to get this one running....

Three days of solid, finger bleeding labor,

A full internal rebuild

A full finish

and nearly ten hours ( total through the project ) of test firing and tuning...

that's it!!!

That being said....it shoots like a dream.

I do NOT reccomend you trying this at home, kids!

I've heard the AO's hae gotten better since Kahr purchased them but I've never owned or shot one. However, I do have an RIA and it's great. They have very good customer service and one of their people is always on the 1911 board to answer questions. You can pick up a new RIA for less than the cost of the used AO.
