Gent's,

Just curious to see what your auto pistol caliber of choice is and why (range time, personal defense, carry, etc.). I'm thinking the most popular are 9mm, .357 Sig, 40 S&W, 45 ACP. I personally own pistols in .357 Sig, 40 S&W and 45 ACP - of the three I'm honestly undecided...like them all - you get high velocity on one, slow hard hitting mass on the other and a cross between both

Cheers,

Sakic #19

I pack three Raven Arms Phoenix .25 ACP's stoked with Extreme Shock Air Freedom Rounds. "The World's Premier Home-Defense/Anti-Terrorist Round", and the first "smart munition". Battle-Proven, Dangerous Game-Tested.
Accuracy, enviromental safety, range-friendly, "shaped-charge" performance.

.45acp for me. Every other caliber auto I own is a compromise in one way or another.

9mm and .45acp are the only calibers i have for auto pistols, i don't care for much else, well i do want a 10mm when i get into reloading

I think it makes sense logistically to not have too many calibers. I recently switched from my G30 .45 to a G17 and G19 9mm. .45 has gotten too expensive for me and I didn't want to have 2 calibers to deal with but I wanted to get another Glock. So the G30 went bye and I got the other 2. 9mm isn't the biggest but it's not a joke either. Like GunDisaster, 9mm and .45 are the only auto pistol calibers I've ever owned.

I've got 1 M&P full size, 1 M&P compact, and one Glock 26 for wife.  All 9mm.  I'm a SHTF kinda guy and like to stick to common military calibers.  There's still a lot of 45's out there too,  but I've gone totally 9mm in recent years as a money saver too.

So now if the SHTF,  all I need to carry is  9mm and 5.56.  I can carry much more ammo in these calibers as well.  That's all you need for defensive ammo.

If you want to go on the offense.  Take 7.62x51 and 45ACP.

9mm.  Welocme to the 21st century, but if you must use ball, 45ACP

All my autos are 9mm or 1911a1 .45's.  Who needs anything else?

10mm. Bah, if I want power, I say .41 or .44 mag in a revolver.

Forget caliber and take a solid training class.  Get proper hits with any of the above calibers mentioned and you should not have to worry.

Agreed.

However, taking a solid training class with 9mm is a lot easier on the wallet than 45 for those that don't reload.

There are people who don't reload???  Astonishing. Heck, I don;t even know how much factory ammo costs anymore.

.45 ACP and 9x19mm for me. 230 gr and 147 gr HST and Ranger-T, though I've also become enamored of the 135 gr Tactical Bonded of late. I mostly use the .45 since it's still well within the realm of controllable for me.

.40 SW, .357 sig, and 10mm auto are all fine calibers, but I just don't think they run as reliably as the mainstays. It's almost splitting hairs, but I'm not going to add layers of complexity for incremental improvements.

There is really not a whole lot of difference in performance between the service calibers.

.45 and .40.  I've never been very impressed with 9mm.  I'd rather throw larger amounts of lead...but as it's been said, it's mostly a personal preference.  In regards to hitting flesh they're all pretty comparable with the right load.

For concealed carry, a Steyr M9 with 147gr Federal HST, and a P3AT. I need to find better ammo for the latter.

Fixed to reflect my opinion. I'm mostly a .45 ACP fan but I like the .40, as well. My fondness for the 9mm isn't gone but it has diminished somewhat over the years.

Right now all I've got in a pistol is a 9mm (CZ-75B).

Ammo is cheap (compared to everything else) and sold everywhere, which as a college student is one of my main concerns.

While I own handguns in more than a dozen chamberings, I primarily shoot and carry four above all others -- .22LR (for cheap fun in volume); .45ACP (HD and vehicles); 9mm (primary CCW); and .380ACP (primary BUG).

I have semi auto 9mm, .357cal, .40 cal, and .45 cal. in various manufacturers. I carry the .40cal. G23. I do not currently have any auto pistols.
