I picked up a Pietta .44 cal BP Navy pistol in the white yesterday for $80 and have always wanted to have one made into an Avenging Angel. I contacted the person who has made some in the past, but he wanted $150 to cut, contour and polish the barrel. Wifey said no, I had tools, I could try it myself. I think it turned out okay. I cut the barrel twice, the first time the bottom of the barrel was just too thin, so I cut it back again with a hacksaw-- I was amazed at how easy that was, but the base pin hole opened up after grinding the contour with my grinder--though I don't think it looks too bad. I then used plum brown bluing, and then super blue bluing on top of that, to give it that old timey look.

Sweet gun you got. I have short barrel fever and chop a lot if I'm left alone with my guns. One of my bucket guns is a Dallas Stoudemire Colt Open Top snub nose. I have a Uberti Wells Fargo that I cut down to 2" with a 32 S&W conversion. Better get someone to take your hacksaw away from your before the fever sets in.

That is awesome looking!  I would love to find one of those in .44 mag and cut it down like you did, but my guess is they are only available in black powder?
