I currently carry a full size 1911 in a VMII.  No problems with it.

Thinking about a back up gun..  A 3" 1911.  Considering crossdraw.  Not sure if I have room for another IWB.  I could carry it left handed if needed.

I wear jeans and a large t-shirt.  Ankle holster is out.

Any recommendations?

I think your backup (if you have one) ought to be carried for the off hand.  You may not be able to use your right and the backup will be easy to access.

It's hard to draw left handed from a right handed vmII.  I've tried.

Tried that.  It ended up on the ground one time too often...

Good point.  Any suggestions?

When I first started thinking about carrying a BUG I was thinking about cross draw as well.  I ended up pocket carrying a Kahr on my weak side.

I think the reason I ended up deciding to go with weak side carry is because one of the posters here suggested that one would be able to draw with either hand.  That way if one hand was occupied you would still be good to go.

I pocket carry a Ruger SP101 on my weak side some times.

Have you looked into an ankle carry for the BUG?  I haven't yet but it's something I'm going to be looking into.

S&W 642 or 340PD in a DeSantis ankle rig or sometimes in the left front pocket.

At times I carry a NAA Guardian in .32ACP.  You always have to add the "ACP" so you believe it will work when you really need it.

I use an Acker Pocket Holster  <Scroll Down> seen here  It's pretty quick to get to and the draw is easy to master.  Just make sure to add a bit of side pressure so that the hooked end of the holster does it's job so you come out with pistol, and only pistol, in your hand.  It also does a decent job of masking the pistols "print" as long as your pants aren't too tight
