FMJ ..

HERE is a good review of several flashlights.  Many photos of the lights in use and also tech specs.  I have found this very useful in chosing a home defense flashlight to "blind" the badguy.  I think you'll find this useful yourself.

I hope the mods dont slap my hand for posting a link to another forum.  I checked in the conduct code and couldnt find anything restricting this.  Anyway, just trying to be helpful.

Fenix TK10 Review with a bunch of pics.

I'm going to get one. Every review I've read is good in regards to the light and the company.

Right now, I carry either my Gladius or my Inova T3. I absolutely despise Xenon bulbs. LEDs is where its at, for me. I could care less if I can see through smoke easier with Xenon. Of course, YMMV.

Get a G2 (they run about $35 locally) and then get this 3 Watt CREE LED conversion.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1447

Extremely bright well focused beam for a total of about $48.00 you'll have a great defense light. I have one in my G2 and 6P. Since the CREE is an LED, no more broken bulbs, a big plus. Lifespan is rated at somewhere around 100,000 hours of operation.

I'm partial to the 6P myself, but this sounds like a good plan.

I recently took an low light/night defensive class.
The next day I threw my G2's in a drawer and got a Z2.
Biggest thing I learned while shooting with a light is make sure it has a lanyard or even better or thumb ring...reloading with a stand alone light is not piece of cake.

I purchased an Olight T20......I think I got it for about $40 + shipping

205 lumens w/ strobe....5 brightness settings (something like 205, 105, 80, 50, and 5)

Small enough to carry it all day.....I have really pissed people off at the office with the strobe......

I have the Fenix P3D-Q5. I use it everyday at work. I go to it over my Surefires. I like the ability to change the brightness settings. I also have a Fenix L01-Ti. It is 75 lumens and smaller than a Maglight solitare. I am also considering a Nitercore Defender. It is small and runs off a single AA battery.

You might want to wait and see what the new cree P7 brings to the market. These LEDs are rated at 500+ lumens.

I have the E2E and the 6P both from Surefire and like them both.  The E2E is easier to carry in my pocket but the 6P normally goes into a flash light pouch on my hip so there is no issue there.

I carry either a SF L2 or a Olight T25-t for a larger light, or a Nitecore D10 if I need to carry a smaller light.  I am not a huge fan of Chinese "Tactical" lights, even my Olight, due to that they lack many of the features that SF has that makes them as reliable as they are.  The main reason I use my T25-t at work is because it is "geek bright" (as a co-worker called it) and has decent throw for a fairly skinny head.

So far I like the NiteCore D10, it does not have the troublesome clicky switches like most other lights and is easy on my pocket as well.  The Defender Infinity was literally a pain to carry.

I have the Fenix L1D Premium Q5, I paid $57 shipped- too much for a light IMO, so I obviously don't have a Surfire to compare- it is a great light and that is the truth.

I use Duracell 2650mAh rechargeables, for everyday occasional use at work etc, the 1(yes that's right, ONE)AA battery lasts almost a month before I have to swap it out for a fresh one.YMMV depending on usage.

It has 2 modes, one mode you click the cap button and it comes on at max level of 120 lumens a tap on the button a second time puts it into strobe. The second mode you turn the bezel CW and you can select 12, 53, or 107 lumens and finally the S-O-S mode.

It isn't "tacticool" but it very practical and a great light for everyday use especially considering the single AA battery it uses, and I am sure it would do a good job lighting up an attacker.

I just replaced my Surefire E1E with an E1B and it's been great so far.  The E1B is a tough light to beat in my opinion.  I add a E2E if I'm going out after dark. One is none...

Not to bash fenix I have a T1 and a P2D and both are great lights. Both are bright and have good run times.

BUT!

The one night someone was in my backyard I grapped my T1, turned the head to full power, pushed the button, the light turned on then off. Did this a couple times before it stayed on. At this point the dogs did their job and I had my mag led in my hand.

Now fenix-store made it right, I needed a new tail cap.

But if something goes bump outside I grab my surefire E2DL.

Check out the e2dl at 120 lumens on high in the back yard looks just as bright as the fenix 225 lumens. On low 5 lumens is brighter then I thought, and a run time of almost 80 hours is cool with me.

I've got a Novatac EDC that I've been carrying for about eight months now and I think it's my favorite light so far for 24/7 carry. It's small enough to be comfortable to carry all the time but it's still pretty bright.

I would like to try a Surefire E1B but I can't stand the way the switch works on that light. If you let go of the button for a second or two then hit it again it goes to 5 lumens. Why can't it just be simple and not do the multi output crap?

Surefire E2E is probably my favorite of the lights that I have. Granted I don't have that many. I got my E2 for Christmas probably 6 years ago. "$75 for a flashlight are the f-ing crazy?" I thought. The first time I turned it on, I never went back to any other kind of light. Nor has my dad once he got one. That was a dozen or so white lights ago.

I've recently caught the Flashaholic sickness.

I EDC a Fenix L1D Q5.  I love that it takes a single AA battery so I never worry about wearing it out during the day or night.

For weekends and special occasions, I also have a Surefire E2DL (with a Z61 tailcap).  It is awesome and the 2 brightness levels is a real plus for actual use.
I carry it in the nylon holster my Fenix P3D came in and it works like a charm.

BTW, you really should handle a Fenix TK10 before you decide.  It is a lot bigger (thicker) than I expected and doesn't work for me in an EDC role.  It is extremely bright however and works great has a backup in my vehicle.
