I prefer the S&W, but Ruger also makes a nice line, very over built.

Back in the dark ages, I got my first S&W when I turned 18 and graduated High School on the same day as a present from my parents.
I've owned many since then along with a few Rugers and Colts.
I've carried all 3 brands at different times.
Probably more S&W's than the other 2 combined.

I love S&W revolvers. Smith and Colt both make great wheelguns, it's all in what you become accustomed to. I like my cylinder latches to open when you push *forward*, I like the cylinder to  rotate from right to left, and I like the side plate on the right. The old 5 screw Smiths are the smoothest actions I have ever felt.
I like the old recessed cylinders, and the pinned barrels too.

I am shocked that Colt doesn't have any votes yet...their revolvers are very accurate, but I personally prefer the action (and look) of the S&W.

I like my Ruger Black hawk. But I would never give up my S&W 4" model 19.

No place to vote for Clerke or RG...so I pick S&W. I shot a new model 28, 4 in. that was in storage many years. Using Samson 125s, I had a few one holers and a few cloverleafs...this one outshoots me! Like Hannah says, "pinned and recessed". I agree the *forward* cylinder release is natural, not back, Colt, down, Dan Wesson or in, Ruger.

S&W for double action, Ruger for single action.

Taurus makes some very fine, inexpensive and practical revolvers. I just wish they wouldn't put compensators on all of them.

S&W... all the way.  Of course I'm sentimentally attached to my baby and wouldn't want to say anything that would hurt her feelings...

But I do agree that Taurus has some nice revolvers... had a snubbie .357 that was very nice.

There I voted for Colt. My royal blue 6" Python is my first revolver and my first "love". I have a S&W model 10 also that I shoot alot. It is our duty weapon at work which is why I bought one. Can't look bad when I'm instructing. However I like the trigger much better on my python as well as the sight picture.

Colt, S&W, Ruger.

Taurus makes some nice revolvers, but they are not my first choice.

Me thinks this is more of a popularity contest than "best" since everyone listed makes top line products.............some models better than other...by each mfg....a matter of which.....smith quality is probably more consistent overall.......

I like my Smiths and really want to get another Python. Ruger is my favorite SA. In terms of accuracy my 8" Dan Wesson take first place. I often go to the rifle range and shoot beer cans placed on the 100M berm, shooting off hand I have about a 60% hit rate. When people watch this they almost always want to try it.
From a bench the hit rate is about 98%.
Fredom Arms makes the highesy quality single action in the world but their price is right up there with the quality.

The best IMHO is the S&W N frames. Second best is the S&W K & L frames. Then there's Colt.

I voted for S&W but Ruger would be my second for pure durability.

Smith.  Tho I do own Rugers and Colt as well.

But then again, I never owned or fired a Korth. You can get one of each of afore mentioned brands for the price of the Korth, with change left over! Oh well, they never made 'em in stainless, so I passed.

Just my humble opinion,Ruger is affordable, user friendly, and will take any handload...

During the latter half of the 19th Century (post Civil War) it was Colt.

For most of the 20th Century it was S&W.

In the 21st Century it is probably Ruger, but the century is young. Hard to tell what lays ahead.

I have a thing for this Dan Wesson:

it fires .45 ACP, .45 ACP+P, .45 Super, .45 Win Magnum, 460 Rowland and .45 Auto Rimmed. Cool huh?

Freedom Arms makes the finest single-action revolver in the world -HANDS DOWN!! Unfortunately, it's also the most expensive.
Ruger makes the best single-acton for the money, I own several Rugers and they're great.

Yup, I also think Ruger make one hell of a tough double action.  Smith is probably my favorite though

That`s why I said what I did earlier...no doubt freedom are fine......those dan wessons are excellent also.....sometimes a 357 d/w (used) is priced unbelievably low.....since many apparently don`t realize what good shooters they are........

Love my S&Ws and my Rugers!

S&W is like a Cadillac of revolvers - classy and good looking; great actions

On the other hand Rugers are like Harleys - rougher and stronger. I've been thrown from a horse and landed on my ruger - only damage was a scrape to the rubber grip.

But if I have to vote for one it would be S&W.
