| What are some decent new cheap 1911 mags? Looking at: Colt, Springfield, Chip McCormich, Novak, Meggar, Target Sports (CDNN). |

There arn't really any GOOD cheap mags for the 1911. There are plenty of cheap mags out there but I would not call them good. Ocassionally you will run across old REAL GI mags that someone does not know what they have, those usually work flawlessly with HARDBALL ammo and range work and are built very well also. Problem is that if they are WW2 era or earlier and have original guts and are in good condition they are becoming collectable to people who want the correct mag for a USGI gun. [there is usually a small initial on the mag base lip]. The older contract "assy" were fine also but there is a plethora of fakes "still in wrap" at about every show I go to. Those were either rejects or crappy fakes and the bases will remove themselves spontaineously, besides causing feeding problem nightmares. Not a fan of SAs mags either, they are at best OK. Ok for range work but nothing else. I like the Colt [mecgar] mags, always buy them if I find them cheap, Wilson [not cheap], and the likes. You don't need 100 mags, 7 is usually all you will ever need, if you don't beat the hell out of them all the time. If you have one that starts to act up just buy another one or try to replace the spring. Cheapo mags an owner has bought has gotten me some nice 1911s cheap because the owner was frustrated by the gun acting up. It was NEVER the gun that had the problem, it was the $5 mags that he had bought 6 of and tried to use. His loss my gain. |
| I bought a bunch of those 'fake' USGI magazines and have had exactly one failure. The feed lips opened up on one mag and I had to trash it. I use these mags for FMJ range fun so reliability isn't a real issue. I have two or three of the 8 round Colt magazines from CDNN and they work without problems. I have five Novack 8 round mags also from CDNN that I use for bullseye matches. I find the ramped follower keeps me from getting FTF's with the semi wadcutter bullets I use. I think teh Novak's are the best low cost magazines out there. For my carry 1911 I use Wilson's. I only need three so cost really isn't an issue because what's your life worth? |
| I am seriously loyal to Wilson mags, as they always work, don't break (unlike what I've read elsewhere), and are reasonably priced. These are the ONLY mags I will carry. I've shot other mags on the range though. McCormick Powermags appear to be extremely good, and cost a little less. I've also had good luck with Med-Gars. |

Metalform, if you can get into a group buy, are the cheapest good mags. The shooting stars from CMC are OK< but I dislike the follower design. Ive had decent luck with the MecGar mags. The ACTs are good, till they start to crack. For my money, the Wilson 47Ds are the only game in town. However, Ive been toying with converting my Shooting Stars with the Tripp kits. Supposed to be a very good piece of kit. |

I bought SA mags with the coupon sent w/ my new gun and have had zero problems, hardball or HP. Bought a couple of GI mags at local gun show, mfr #'s on floor, very cheap and had both bottoms pop off while firing. Have 3 Chip McCormick 8rd mags zero problems. Ya get what you pay for. Mark |

The $8.99 Target Sports mags from CDNN are perfect. I have Wilson, Chip McCormick, ACT, and several others, and these are as good or better than the best of them... www.targetsportsinc.com/ Go to page 4 of the Colt pistol magazines... ' target='_new'>
