top NON-custom (Miller, etc) major brands.

Posted as a non-dupe to better reflect brands in the poll, considering that nearly half of the folks voted "other"

Thank you, neoinarien.  This poll has much less built-in douchebaggery than fiveby55's original poll and his posts.

I've had seven 1911s, and although you would think they're all about the same (being 1911s all), my favorite hands down has been Colt.  Just feels better, and works every time.  The downside is you have to get them customized.  Mine cost 2k in total as done by Yost-Bonitz.  That said, my STI Trojan, works perfectly and has all the features, including an even better trigger job (by Bob Londrigan at Brazo's Custom) for a total of $1,100.   STIs are the best for the money IMO.
I've got a $1,500 customized SA and still don't really like it.  Just feels wrong.  I like what I see in Les Baer, but haven't tried one.

Get a Trojan for $999 from gunsmith Bob Londrigan at Brazo's Custom and have Bob do a trigger job on the original parts.

To me Brown and Wilson are the best "production" 1911's but whether or not you could consider either a "major" manufacturer is stretching it a bit.

<Rant>
And thanks to many in this group.   For insular arrogance.  For foregoing inclusion in favor of exclusion.  For failing to embrace diversity in viewpoint and level of experience.  For not being supportive to those that wish to participate even though they do not share the status quo group vision.  This is a 1911 enthusiast group and nobody is here to bash the platform.  However, I think many, if not drunk on the koolaid, recognize that this platform is somewhat unique.  It requires the operator to take an interest in the platform and to become knowledgeable on how it works.  It can be the best.  It can also be highly frustrating and a general PITA.

I appreciate those that have taken the time to contribute to my education.  The pointers to websites.  The expert opinions on where to start in troubleshooting. You cannot buy the insight available here for free.  And like our colleague fiveby55, I am not experienced on this platform and I seek to learn new things.  And yet,  I have seen that draw the ire of those who are the self appointed keepers of the flame around here.  If it's a private group, then by all means advertise that and run it as such.  If it's a public forum for the appreciation of the 1911 platform and to propagate knowledge and enjoyment of a great hobby, then everyone needs to show some appreciation for noobs as well as subject matter experts.  The 'we are experts and you are clueless' gets really old and does not encourage participation.

for my part, i saw that fiveby55's poll had an AWFUL lot of "other" responses, and knew that this would not help him.  so i simply posted a new poll filling it out with some better and more popular auctions.

wasn't meant as a slight to him: we've all been where he is right now.

can't vote intelligently, haven't owned enough different 1911s to know what I think is better. But this is interesting, and will likely get expensive for me.... I need another one.... or ten. Damn being on a budget! I suppose in the end buying 100 different 1911s wouldn't do me a bit of good unless I had the funds to shoot the piss out of all of them.

To be clear neoinarien,  while my rant may have appeared in a new and improved poll you were the OP for, I really wasn't referring to anything you have said or done.  Thought it was clear that it was in response to the 'douchebaggery' comment.  Sorry if it seemed otherwise.

Im really suprised at two things, some people dont get out much and the number of Brown, Wilson and Nighthawk owners that made it in the poll.
