I decided I might possibly treat myself to another new handgun for my birthday and while I wait to go to boot camp in January. Here is what I have so far:
Springfield XD HK USP Sig P239 Kimber Warrior S&W 686 What I am looking at are the following: FN FNP S&W M&P Beretta 92f CZ (not sure which model) Sig P226/229 Walther PPK Sorry for all the choices, but since I live in New Jersey and its ridiculous laws, it takes 3 weeks to get a permit |

S&W M&P is my vote. I see a pole coming on!! ETA ever thought of a P228 W. German pistol? +1 on the M&P line, I love my full-size and my compact .40 S&W, very accurate and comfortable shooting guns. I got a West German P226 for my 21st, great gun so I can't help but agree to take a look at the W. erman P228 also. |

I am in the same boat as you and I considered many of the same handguns. The only difference is that this will be my first handgun. I believe I have settled on the M&P in 9mm and will purchase one soon. I can give you a reason for each gun why I did not choose it.
FNP9 - Don't like the mags. They have a huge baseplate, they are a shiny silver color. 92fs - Grip is too large. CZ-75B - I really like this gun as far as ergos, aesthetics and accuracy goes but a few things hold me back. Poor aftermarket. Trigger not the best, hard to improve without smith work, difficult to work on the gun in general. Sig - Out of my price range. Heavy Why I choose the M&P: Ergonomics are great, trigger can easily be greatly improved (Apex drop-in parts), large aftermarket support, accurate, very reliable, durable, lifetime warranty, great price, mags are decent, good customer service from what I read. It just has all the things I am looking for and none that I am not. There are issues that I have read about: Shooting low, paint falling off sights, dead trigger. But these seem to be very rare or easily fixed, and every manufacturer puts out their share of lemons. Hope this helps. |

CZ-75B -. Lack of aftermarket. You have not looked very hard. CZ Custom Shop |

AK_Steve thanks for your input. I did notice that the Beretta has a big grip when I shot my buddies. Really enjoyed shooting it, but the grip was kind of distracting. I will have to look at the other things you mentioned when I go to the gun shop. I don't have any experience with the other guns except for the 226.
The Sig 228 is sounding good. I didn't even think about it..see why I need help? Also, I have nothing against Glock, but why does everyone suggest the g19 and not other models? Just curious. |

Maybe I should have said "poor aftermarket support." I am aware of that shop, but that's about the only place, the CZ aftermarket does not touch the M&Ps. What do you have to say about the rest of my argument? On the CZ, two of the most important parts on a handgun, the sights and the trigger are difficult to work on. It looks like to install a new front sight, you have to drill out the roll pin hole. I want to be able to easily modify my gun at home. That is a big thing for me. The M&P has more sights available and is simpler and much easier to work on. I am not saying I won't buy one down the road. But not for my first/only handgun. |

Beretta 92 its a great reliable, accurate gun. Plus its what your going to use out of boot camp. I don't know if I will be trained on the M9. I joined the Marine Corps and chose infantry as my MOS and I have no clue if they train with the M9. Although I wouldn't mind getting chosen to be in an MEU and getting the .45! |

You need a workhorse, get a Glock! ![]() I am actually thinking about it, but don't know which model to look at especially because I don't know what caliber gun I want yet.. There are so many. I left Glock out of the poll because I wasn't sure if I really wanted one and if it was in the poll we all know it would be the one everyone picked. |
