So...Ive gotten to a point in my hobby where I am looking to get into something new. I have decided to combine an old hobby of woodworking with my new(er) hobby of guns. I have an s and w J frame that I carry everyday, and I am planning to build a wooden grip for it. To get started, I am going to use my Rossi to get a better feel for it before I move up to the S&W... Im looking for advice, tips, PICTURES, stories, and hopefully some good instructions online about building your own grips. Google was a little help, but I have a feeling that the good people of GT or ARF will be able to help me some more! Im not looking for any advice like, "just go buy one," or, "dont bother," because this is something im looking to do as an addition to my hobby, not save money or anything. Just to add, I have purchased a beautiful piece of Hungarian Mahogany, which is a deep brown, with a hint of red, tight grain, and very dense. Sooo...any links or help!? |

My dad made two sets of grips for the J-frame Smith. He has one on his M640 and I have one on mine. He just took the factory grips off and copied the inletting inside to get them to fit. I believe he used a dremel tool. Then he ground down the outside. He used brass screws and nuts to avoid rust. He just took his time and got them right the first time. |
