I've heard some people say that they wont buy a Kimber Pro Carry because of this. Does it really matter and what does not having a barrel with a bushing mean?
Thanks! |

The bushingless barrel does not bother me as much as the tool requirement to take down the slide. Quoted:
I think I'm going to convert my pro tle/rl ii to a commander recoil spring guide rod. I did some time back. Much better now. No tool needed. Do you have a big gaping hole in the front where the full length guide rod was before? Umm... Define "big gaping". The hole is the size of the reverse plug hole obviously. I'm a suburban commando so it does not bother me. Same concept as the Wilson: http://www.impactguns.com/store/media/wilson/wilson_cqb_compact.jpg fair enough. thanks! |

Interesting... So to get the FLGR out of the plug what do you do? Just compress the spring a little more, take the little tool pin out, and watch the plug/FLGR/spring fly apart? lol Yes. But done inside a plastic shopping bag would be ideal to keeping parts out of orbit. |

But done inside a plastic shopping bag would be ideal to keeping parts out of orbit. This is good advice. But, I did not follow it and had zero issues. My steps: 1) Lock slide 2) Insert paperclip 3) Remove slide 4) Stand rod on back end (remove any oil to make less slippery) 5) Place bag to cover assembly (optional) 6) Press down on plug 7) Remove paperclip 8) Slowly remove plug |
A good way to take recoil spring assembly apart is to put it back in the slide without the barrel so you can push on it easily to get the takedown pin out. Then you can just ease the guide rod out instead of letting everything fly apart. It's a hell of a lot easier than the other methods mentioned and there's less chance of losing stuff or hurting yourself.

It's the stock reverse plug all Kimber Pro models come with. The only change is the FLGR to the Commander length rod. Good info here Contact'...I have a PC HD II that I have trouble with, some say getting rid of the rod is better, I don't know...first 1911 "used"...have Fail to feed...slide does not lock back on last round on first range trial.. ..I have a new recoil spring coming from Wolff hoping that will go away....now what about this commander size rod....where did you get that to replace the stock FLGR? (use same stock spring?)
Thx.. |
