Yeah, that response from them definitely seems a bit off.  No way it costs that much to replace some parts.

I'll be sure to keep a close eye on mine.  I just recently started carrying it (although I work from home and don't get as much as I used to).  I don't go crazy about a little bit of surface rust, but if there's rust developing deeper in the guts of the gun, or if the slide's rusting with no real exposure to sweat or other fluids, something is off.

If they have some problem finish batches, it'd be nice if they fessed up and took care of the problem, but folks need to report it to them for them to know about it I guess.  If not enough do that, they probably won't figure out there's an issue.  Certainly not unheard of to have bad finish batches.

The rust on your trigger pivot pin has me wondering what's going on.  From what I can tell, that's an area of the gun that goes beyond basic field strip level maintenance.  Not even sure how you'd get to it to clean & oil it without pulling the chassis.

First and foremost.  I would love to know your qualifications to identify body salt residue on a pistol from a twice bit crunched image on the internet.

Second of all, it's not normal for a properly finished gun to rust under normal use conditions.  A gun taking steam off of a body shouldn't rust.  Especially one made for carry.  It's made for this, allegedly.

Why don't I have a safe full of rusting guns?

Do I bathe my 55 year old PPK daily in 0W40 or was the steel finished properly?

Do I polish my USP like it's a Harley or is the steel finished properly?

Be a stand for HK if you want, but if you think this is normal, you're dead wrong guy.

Yeah if I can figure out how to take it down fully it's going to be a fun autopsy before sending the parts off to nitride.

I will update this thread when the dealings are done.

I've been carrying my CC9 since May of 2025, practically daily, unless I choose to carry something else.

Zero rust on any surface. The handgun is carried in a Tenicor Certum holster, which are known to wear the finish on firearms. With that said, the CC9 has little to no holster wear.

Interesting to see the rust on OP's. It looks almost like the slide wasn't properly treated and cleaned prior to applying the finish, which if I recall is DLC.

Also, I don't see the rust on the trigger pivot, but it must be internal. I find it hard to believe that the scant amount of surface rust on the mag release is causing it to bind.

With that said, the finish on the CC9 magazines suck, the magazines themselves look like they were welded by Helen Keller and they QC just isn't there with the mags.

Seems like the issue is two fold, both HK-USA and OP.

What you call “steam” was sweat, let’s be honest here.  I shouldn’t have to repeat this for you but everyone knows sweat contains salt which is corrosive on metals.  You didn’t even bother cleaning the gun and shouldn’t be surprised it rusted.  No matter what you think, your blued guns would’ve fared worse under the same conditions.  You assumed the finish on this particular gun would allow you to skip proper maintenance but unfortunately you were wrong.

Maybe you had a lot of sodium in you that day, or maybe something in your diet or medication, hormones etc changed.  There are people that have such corrosive sweat that a blued gun will rust with minutes of then touching it.  When you see people in museums handing things, they often wear gloves for this exact reason.

I’m not an HK fan, I don’t even like their pistols and only owned a P7 at one time, so I have no dog in this fight.  It sucks your gun rusted, but you took a chance neglecting the gun and now you see the results.  It isn’t HK’s fault.

Quote is crazy but the rust looks pretty minimal. Not unexpected for a carry gun.

Those roll pins always rust if they're uncoated. Hand sweat gets in there easy.

I don’t know what “twice bit crunched images” means, but what do you think that is, the white residue?  Why is it white if it isn’t salt crystals?

HK said that they intend to make it right.  Once I get it back from its first trip, the expense of which I paid for, I will send it back on their prepaid label.

I don't know if it was a legitimate mistake or if they would really rather have this resolve favorably for all parties instead.

When I first disassembled my cc9 mags, I noticed some rust spots around the baseplate.

I always carried in a crossbreed super tuck, so the slide never got wet. The grip did in the summertime, and I guess sweat just sat on the mag under the baseplates.

It was disappointing because my Masada slim mags, fn mags, and even XD mags never did that. Obviously my Glock mags didn't either.

I always wipe down my carry guns after a day of heavy sweating, but I don't disassemble the mags to get under the baseplates.

Sounds like they must changed the fomula for the finish. The original  USP Hostile Finish has served me well. I think if the HK finish is like Tennifer. I believe they had to change to keep up with whatever werid ecological laws that are mandated.

Surprising and disappointing, especially from HK. I've had my G-19 Gen3 as my daily carry gun for 25 years and it has zero rust. This is through living in FL, SC, and TX and carried through LA, MS and AL.

My G43 rusted. As did my stainless P220. Guns rust. It’s what happens. Looking at OPs photos. Makes me think he needs to clean his gun more often and wipe it down better.

Just my opinion.

I can't carry during the day, Monday through Thursday, because of where I work, but I will usually carry my CC9 two to three days of the work week in the afternoon/evening, in a CYA IWB holster.  Friday through Sunday, I carry it pretty much most of the day, and that includes mowing, weed eating, and yard/ outside work in general, so that can include quite a bit of sweat.

Been carrying it about a year.  Having been spoiled by Glocks, I haven't really made it a point to inspect or clean it.  I just looked it over because of this thread and it shows no evidence of rust or finish wear.  The only wear I see is on one corner of the Holosun EPS Carry, that is probably caused by my shirts rubbing on it.

I'm still happy with my purchase, and I guess I will just make it a point to check it and wipe it down every once in a while.

Well...I just applied two layers of EEZOX to my CC9 slide. This will be the first summer I carry it. Lets see what happens. I don't wear it all day due to it being 'No Bueno' at work. I shoot it almost every range trip so I really don't expect to see any rust formation.

As previously stated their tone became more apologetic once I opened a complaint with the BBB.  So they replaced the entire pistol.  It no longer comes with a 407/507k, but with the vortex defender-CCW.  Which I actually like so far.  The sights also appear taller than they were and are usable through the window of the optic.  The slide finish is of the most interest to me...  It feels a lot like sig nitron or a quality nitride.  I don't know how to describe it on the one they took in, but it was almost a grayish black with a velvety kind of texture, not as rough as parkerizing, but you could definitely get grip on it outside of the serrations.  This new one is smooth, slick,  ink black and shiny, not as smooth to the touch as my USP, but very close.

Trigger is even better than the old one.

Slide releases were almost unusable on the original pistol, these ones work like a charm.

Magazines are the same.  Don't feel like German HK, welds are interesting.

Overall it feels better than the old one in every metric, and inspires confidence.  We'll see how this one holds up!

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I do have experience in warranty work in this industry.  99% of the time when a customer is experiencing finish issues, its due to lack of maintenance.  Its your carry gun, in a hot environment, where you sweat on it and the sweat evaporates leaving salt, which is highly corrosive.  You don't wipe it off every time you carry it, and leave it in the safe for extended periods with salt on it.  No shit it rusted.  Some finishes resist rust better than others, but to expect ferrous metal to sit with salt on it and not rust, that is just displaying a lack of chemistry knowledge.

$664 to do anything other than replace the whole gun, that is pants on head retarded.  I'm hopeful they do something to make it right for you, but this is on you to some extent.

It SEEMS like a sig-type rolling upgrade.  "There is no gen 2" but things are clearly different this time around.  From the optic down.

It might just be better for and finish.  I was never upset about the fit....  The finish?  Clearly needed work.

Somehow my nasty sweat magically corrodes only one carry pistol.  My least carried pistol.  Incredible.  I must have scientifically formulated sweat that only breaks down CC9s.  It's definitely my lack of maintenance.

This must be studied. Makes perfect sense.

It took your sweat to make it rust.  Had you never sweated all over it without cleaning it, would the gun have rusted all by itself?

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the bird is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

I’m a big HK fan and bought one of the first 10000 CC9’s. Similar to you, love how it shoots, carries, quickly became my EDC. One day at the range the mag release was getting stuck, looked at it in the daylight and was horrified. It was literally covered with a layer of rust. Not like on yours, almost  the whole thing was red with rust. I sent the pics to HK, whose CS always been excellent in my experience. Shipping label was provided and with about one week turnaround I had my frame back, looking perfect. My understanding was they had a bad batch and have replaced my mag release with the upgraded one. End of story? Nope. Yesterday at the range the button was a bit hard to push again, today while cleaning noticed more rust, this time less, the same amount as on your picture. No rust in any other areas. I also own several HK’s and I EDC’d USPc and P2000SK for many years here in South Florida climate. No obsessive maintenance, just a reg. cleaning/lubrication after every other range trip. NEVER any rust, EVER. I was really hoping to proudly own “Made in USA” HK carry piece, but now I’m getting concerned. Picked up the VP9CC last month, which I can’t shoot as good as CC9 yet, but it looks and feels like a real deal HK. It exudes quality.
