So I'm getting a pistol for CCW soon, and I'm trying to figure out what to buy. I currently own a CZ-52 and love it to death, and since shooting a friend's CZ-75b I've decided I want a CZ. Now, the problem is I haven't had any experience with any CZ compacts. None of my friends have one and none of the ranges near me have one available to rent.

After looking through CZ's website I've narrowed it down to a few different choices, and I was wondering if I could get some advice from some people more knowledgeable than me on the subject.

CZ-75 Compact - The most like the one I shot
CZ-75D PCR - My current favorite, smaller/lighter than the compact with the same capacity.
CZ-2075 RAMI - Really small, with a decent capacity, but it might be a little small for my big hands.

Any help would be much appreciated.

CZ-2075 RAMI - in .40.  Great little carry piece.

I'm in the same boat as you right now- searching for an appropriate carry piece.

I'm currently carrying a CZ-75 SA.  Its not ideal by any means- big, heavy, and BIG ambi safety that constantly gets disengaged when sitting down and entering/exiting vehicles.  At this point I wish I just had a regular CZ75- I could live with the size and weight but the safety issue and lack of good holsters is driving me nuts.

I've narrowed my search to the standard CZ 75 compact unless I find a good deal locally on one of the generic polymer pistols out there.

Why?

It is the closest thing that CZ makes to what I want.  I want a consistent trigger pull- that means SA with a safety or DAO.  That(unfortunately) kicks the P-01 and PCR off of my list.  I really really wish I could get a DAO P-01, but it doesn't exist.

What I suggest is deciding on how you want to carry- do you want to carry cocked and locked?  Decocker? Can you live with a trigger that changes from the first to second pull?

Make that decision and your choices will narrow down.

With that said, my vote goes to the 75 Compact for good 'ol fashion cocked n locked carry.

I carry a RAMI and also own a P-01.  The P-01 is a nice shooter, but I prefer the size of the RAMI for carrying.  The RAMI does have a small grip, and my pinky hangs off, but it is still a smooth shooter.  It all depends on the size of gun you are comfortable with.

Yeah, that is something I've been trying to figure out (DA+decocker vs SA+safety) my preference for. I've fired a few DA/SA guns, and I know that I'm terribly inaccurate at distance in DA mode. But then again, that's at distances of 25 yards or so, and at the ranges where I'd more than likely need to use my CCW that might be negated. After thinking a bit more about it I think I've eliminated the Compact. If I wanna carry cocked and locked I think I'll pick up the RAMI. SA+safety would be nice for making sure I made my first shot count, plus the added benefit of having a consistent trigger pull. I've just always been a little uneasy with cocked and locked, which I guess I'd have to spend more time trying it out and getting used to it.

Guess I'm a little biased for this discussion, but I've had many CZs, including the 9 and .40 RAMIs. I always keep coming back to the PCR for carry. It just feels right in my hands, has been 100% reliable, and it's very smooth shooting. It's the gun my wife learned to shoot with, she never had shot a gun before that.  After decocking the PCR to half-cocked position, there is less trigger travel when firing the first shot so there isn't as much difference on the trigger feel (which is smooth as butter after 700rnds) with the following SA shots, And yes, it's safe to carry in the half-cock position.

As they say PCRit

My usual carry used to be my CZ 83, but I've recently started carrying my 75 Compact. I like it, but I'll probably carry something a little smaller during the warmer months. If they made the P-01 with a safety, I might have gone that route. I prefer the option of carrying with the hammer down or C&L. Any of the CZs with a decocker leave you stuck with hammer down carry only.

ETA: I use a Comptac C-TAC:

Thanks for the holster pic..

I went Compact since the sights/safety are the same as my 97b house gun

How big is the difference in trigger pull between SA and half-cocked? If it's not a huge difference that may be the tipping point to deciding on a PCR.

(also, nice pistol. )

I wouldn't call them similar by any means. The trigger pull from the half-cock position is only slightly less travel than from the position of the hammer entirely down, and it's still a DA trigger pull. Also, you still have a half cock position on a safety equipped version.

Not putting down the PCR, but I don't think the half-cock position can really be used in the decision making process. JMHO

I have the p-01 and love it.  It is essentially the PCR with a tac rail and no loaded chamber indicator.
