Looking for informed reviews and personal opinions based off of first hand experience on compact Springfield XD's and Beretta PX4 pistols in .45. Any other pistol recommendations welcome. Budget will be around $600. Thanks all.

In your budget, I don't think you can do any better than a Glock or a S&W M&P. Pick your caliber and your size and enjoy.

I believe you would do fine with either a Glock 19/23/32/30, S&W M&P in 9mm 40/357 45, SA XD in 9mm 40/357 45.

Any of the compact pistols listed are going to be in your price range and be an excellent service pistol.  You just need to find out which one fits you and you shoot the best.  I can sit here all day telling you I think you should get a Glock and that I believe it will be the best pistol.  Fact of the matter is I can recommend you pistols all day but what you shoot good and what I shoot good is totally different.  Find what works for you and you are comfortable with.

Good luck and post pics of your pistol when you get it.

i prefer alloy frames, that being said take a gander at a used Sig P229 or a CZ P-01/P-06.

I speak for myself and am confident a few others when i say the G23 is one of the worst Glocks out there, I'd test fire one before you buy it. I owned a G23 for a while and just couldnt get used to it. I recently tried a friend's ported G23 and gave it back after 5 rounds, just unpleasant to shoot. I was more accurate with the G27 then the G23, dunno why but just was. You might like it though, I just especially advise shooting a G23 before you buy. The interweb will sometimes tell you the G23 is the best gun on the market due to a seemingly perfect package on paper, quantities sold, etc. but at the range a different story is told...

The XD is one of the nicest polymer frames I've shot, but im just not a polymer person.

Heresy. The 23 is Glock's best selling pistol for a reason. Strengthen your wrists.

Glock 19 is my favorite CCW.

$600 will get you a new G19 and a nice holster for it.

Thanks for the feed back guys. I actually came across a good deal today while pricing CCW's and picked up a like new XD .45 compact. I was able to talk them down and got it for $450 with case and all componants. I had an XD .40 tactical before and really like it. After reading the feed back I had actually set out with Glock 30 in mind but could not find one under $650 and it would have required ordering and waiting. If I had spent more than $500 the wife would have shot me with what ever I bought anyhow so I had to be careful lol.

-shrug-  6 of 7 responses recommend a Glock 19 or similar.. NONE recommended an XD.  LOL

Hope the XD does right by you and that you make an effort to get to a training class or 2 and really learn to run the gun.  Good luck and stay safe!

Congrats on the new gun!

When you're ready to get a holster for it I highly recommend a crossbreed super tuck!

Good buy do not let people tell you anything bad about the XD it is a good pistol I owned one awhile back and it shot well.  I sold mine because I hated the way the trigger felt (personal preference) and traded it in on a Glock 21SF.  Everybody is going to give you their opinion and why they think their pistol is better.  Fact is if the XD is what you like and what feels good to you then you have done right.  I am a gungho Glock 1911 guy so .... Be safe shot often and have fun while you do it.

I'm military so I have the training . Just used to my M9. However I have owned an XD .40 tactical and loved it. Once I had sold it I regreted it, so I guess I was a little stuck on getting another. I was also stuck with a budget of $500 until I got home and the wife says to me, " oh thats it I had expected you to spend more." So I punched her in the face and went to my room to cry lol. Just joking but I was suprised at the response and wish I would have known.
