| ok heres a dumb question about concealing when visiting someone in jail. Tomorrow i am going to visit my brother in jail tomorrow and i was wondering if i were carrying when i entered the facility would i just check it in and leave it with the police up front or should i just leave it at home.? Ive never visited anyone in jail so i am not sure how this works i dont want to leave it at home but i dont want to be arrested. |

I went to visit a member of my family in jail and we had to check in everything that was on our person at the appointment window, and then had to pay for a storage locker to hold our stuff during our visit. I recommend either leaving it at home, or leaving it in your vehicle. |
| I would say it is highly dependant on state law and how the jail is designed/visits conducted. Leave it in the car the first trip and check out the setup. At my county jail you just go in the little lobby area phone the jailer and the visitation booths are right there in the same area. I have only been there for ltc or nfa reasons but never got checked for weapons. |

In Arizona, if it's a STATE facility, they have to check your weapon, if it's Federal, best leave it in the car. No idea about your state, might want to ask in your Home Town Forum. If it is federal, don't even bring it on the property. It is a federal offense to even have it in your car. |

Some of you can can sure come up with some wild..."Should I carry" place idea's. Common sense guys...golly. ![]() While I agree, it is pretty natural to want to be armed in the proximity of so many criminals. If you carry at Wally World, it makes little sense to not want to carry near or in a jail. |

Your visit may wind up longer then desired, years longer.
The upside of that is he may get to spend more time w/ his brother. Check out the laws of your state. Pose the question in your HTF. Chances are there's a prison guard and/or cop in your HTF who can direct you to the applicable laws. |

Some of the web sites stated that vehicles are subject to search. Here's Belknap County Jail's visiting rules: Visiting Rules

You said it, not me. ![]() Im not looking to carry it with me round the prison just wasnt sure if i could check it and have it locked up. But thanks for the advice i just left it at home. it was wierd i couldnt have anything in my pockets no keys no wallet no phone all so i could go into another room with visitors so we could talk through a phone with inmates on the other side of 2" thick plexiglass and steel I certainly dont understand that. |

I highly doubt you'll get arrested if you try, like other drama queens might try to tell you. They'll likely remind you that you can't have it in here and to take it to the car. |

there was a thread here that went like this
1. guy takes his CCW to prison parking lot to visit son 2. PD is searching everyone on (or near apparently) the lot 3. Guy comes .5 inch away from going to pound me in the ass prison with his son 4. Cop decides to be a nice guy and lets him go 5. Guy leaves 6. Hides gun in storm drain 7. Returns 8. "Nice guy" cop says WTF 9. Tells cop about gun in storm drain 10. ???? 11. Comes to GD to blame cop anyway dont take your guns to town johnny :) |
| I visited my son a couple months ago (he's 1350 miles away) and all I was allowed to have was my D.L., my vehicle key (KEY––-not keyS) and $20 in QUARTERS (for the vending machines)...not even a wrist watch is allowed and they looked pretty closely at my leather belt and finally decided I could keep it on. |
