| CDP or ESP. Where would a base, governent model Wilson 1911 fit in IDPA ? |
|
Quoted:
CDP I have seen a few 10 rounders slip in to the fray, but I have not looked at the official rules. I have 8's +1. You coming to Green Valley on Sunday? I was going Sunday with Perkins Commander holstered Milt Sparks owb. Seems a cutting horse event got priority so I'm stuck baby sittin calves in Carthage Sunday.
Cameron Cup is in June. I will be at that match with metallic and open pistols. Ken and Greg. Thanks for info. 45acp 10 rounders won't fit in the box. I'm feeling a need for high polish stainless steel dedicated IDPA pistol in .38 Super with ivory grip panels. |

Both, but ideally CDP.
ESP = single or double action, 9mm or larger, up to 10+1 CDP = single or double action, 45ACP only, up to 8+1 So a standard government 45 can play in either, but if you go ESP you're be competing against ligher recoiling 9's that have an extra two rounds in the magazine. If you go CDP you're just be competing with other 45's. |

Anything else is less than idea for IDPA. |

Iirc must be 45 acp for cdp. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I just checked and back to edit. Have to be ESP ? Hell, I don't know. The rules to keep IDPA from being a game make it more of a game than it should be. This started for me with Para P-18-9 not fitting "in the box.". Between the box and wink, wink good ole boy antics that occur at local matches it's borderline retarded. .38 Super is a serious choice for carry. IDPA intentionally limits it. Good or bad ? Ain't gonna sweat it. |

Ain't gonna sweat it. Care to elaborate? It is worth pointing out that I've seen a lot of stages where you start with your gun in a box, so having a gun that doesn't fit (thus proping open the lid) would give you an advantage, but reading Para's website it sounds like the P18 would fit. CDP was designed as a division for the classic 1911 45 government model, just like USPSA's Single Stack division. If you want to shoot something other than a M1911A1 chambered in 45ACP, there are other divisions you can play in. If you want a dedicated IDPA gun, buy a gun that's designed to push the envelope of the IDPA rules (just like you'd push the limits of USPSA if you want a dedicated USPSA gun). 38 super may be a valid self-defense round, but it's not common outside of competition (within the USA). How many police departments use 38 super? How many militaries use 38 super? The reality is that it is a round used almost exclusively for competition (within the USA). 38 super can be used in SSP and ESP (assuming the rest of the gun is legal for those divisions), but it's not ideal for those divisions. 40S&W is in the same boat, as is 10mm, 357sig, and many other calibers. A lot of the IDPA rules are a reaction to the USPSA rules. A lot of it didn't make any sense to me until my first USPSA match, and then it suddenly started to make sense. |

I've seen a few of the older shooters (most have a USPSA background) use 38 super in ESP. Why purchase another 1911 when they have this one sitting in the safe? 38 super works fine in esp, only down side is brass cost. easier to get a 1911 running 38 super without hiccups over 9mm, but the Smiths have learned to get a 9mm to work.
eta recall that 9mm 10 round magazines are a rather new item, where 10 round 38 super mags are not in terms of the SS 1911. |

Just finished 9mm refurb for sumo61 using old Colt slide and original barrel. Non-ramped barrel is much tougher to make feed just about anything over ramped barrels. Ramped was what I wanted but not the way it ended. I used Wilson 10 round ETM as control magazine. Wilson evidently discontinued 47d and to my way a thinkin is blunderfucked. O'well. Deal with it and move on. Tripp magazine feed lips needed to be cut to work. Something I didn't have time for. Aaron Tripp and I discussed, need to gather up a bunch of 1911s for a Tripp to Texas. Tripp will cut feed lips custom. Wilson is soon to be in same shoes if not careful.
Control is good. Too much is bad. Anyway, 9mm is yawn. Boring. That's all anyone wants to shoot. Nothing wrong but .38 super is where I'm at for now. Plus it's straight up tits in a chamber for fun. Especially in a sea of 9mm plasticware. |
