Apex kits for the 9/40 will drop into the shield with no fitting issues.
I ordered the Competition Enhancement Kit that should give you a three pound pull. I made the concuss decision to order this trigger even for a carry pistol and bess I know the repercussions if any. The installation went smooth and all of the parts were drop in with no fitting issues. Wow what a great improvement and just makes the shield a dream to shoot. As far as function issues the trigger return spring was the last part of the kit to be installed. When I added the Apex trigger return spring the trigger would move back and the trigger hinge spring was strong enough that the trigger would move back and the trigger safety would be slow to move. The trigger safety would touch the frame then clear giving the trigger pull a her-thunk feeling. The trigger would work just real annoying and depending were you finger was on the trigger say at the very bottom would go away. I reinstalled the factory reset spring and the issue went away the trigger safety reliably and cleanly cleared the frame. The trigger pull went from 3.2 pounds to right at 4 pounds consistently. So there is no need to wait for a shield specific kit the ones available now work, I have a ram coming in a day or two so I will see how that goes. |

I'm considering installing the DCAEK in my shield mainly to help the break. I like the trigger out of the box but the break s a bit... strong... not sure how to put it, but in dry fires the front sight post jumps to the right. I hear they are coming out with a "Shield Carry Kit" which sounds like a DCAEK with the correct size slave pin.
They are also apparently working on a solid body polymer trigger to replace the stock one. I'd definitely be interested in it as the trigger safety sometimes catches on the frame depending on where you have your finger on it. I've only had this problem dry firing, not on the range, and I'm at 600+ rounds so far... no failures. |

For a slave pin I used a wooden dowel from a wood Q-tip like you find in a medical office. They are in the gunsmith tools at Brownells. I shot apex an email asking if that is the only difference. I don't have a problem making my own slave pin, I have a box of various size rivets and find one with the right size mandrel pin and cut it to size. I think I have some wood Q-tips around here somewhere, I'll have to give that a try. |
| Apex sent out this press release yesterday. They detailed what works in the Shield and what doesn't. |
