sorry if this isnt completely cohesive.. im kind of sick right now.
so i know there are some gun guys on here, this question is for them. i bought a Sig Sauer 229 in .357sig a year or so ago to eventually use as a concealed carry (gun is considered a compact, kinda thick though). gun has night sights, hogue grips. since then i havent quite pulled the trigger on getting my license, and as ammo for my sig has gone up to $400 for 1000 rounds, i cant really afford to shoot it much anymore. (this lead to my purchase of a walther P22 as supplement) where it gets tricky is that ive fallen for 1911's. ive really got my eyes set on a Kimber custom 2 right now ($780+tax).. the sig is an expensive pistol. should i sell it and pick up a glock 26/subcompact xd (450-550, arguably better/easier to conceal carry pistols) and the kimber? or hold on to the 229 since it IS in a finish they dont sell anymore and just be patient for the 1911. i figure the sig should fetch $750-800.. nickel plated slide and furniture, great shape with a pelican box, 3 hi-cap mags, 2 10 rounders, two sets of hogue grips, the night sights, and 50 rounds of hollowpoints http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Raysat/guns/D2X_0739.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Raysat/guns/D2X_2800.jpg |

Quoted: I'd keep the Sig, hold off on the Glock/XD and get the 1911. Make sure the 1911 doesn't have an external extractor and replace the plastic mainspring housing (back and bottom of the grip). I carry a XD45 instead of a 1911 because I don't really want to carry an extra mag. The XD45 is kind of like carrying two 1911s. In the end YOU have to be comfortable with your choice. Its not always about the money or the name. So much comes into play with CCW. The right holster for the right gun in jeans and a polo might not work in a suit or shorts and a t-shirt for you. There are really only a couple of criteria for long term CCW. Can you conceal what your carrying all the time regardless of dress or occasion and can you carry it comfortably? Like I said in another thread. I can carry the XD45 in shorts and a t-shirt all day comfortably and you'd never know I have it on me. Suit, jeans, whatever. It just works for me. YMMV Keep the Sig though. Lose the cuffs. |

Damn, that looks like Jack Bauer's gun in season 1!
I'd say stick with whatever you shoot and handle best. I know the prices on .357 Sig are exhorbitant at the moment, if you don't reload. The 1911 is gonna be a bit heavier than the Sig. If you're truly comitted to carrying it everyday, more power to ya. I carried my own Custom II every day for some years. Great pistol. I do love mine. That said I carry a G17 now.
Kind of up to you. Yeah, the G26 you mentioned would be a great carry pistol also. Very light and compact. Modern 9mm is nothing to sneeze at. |

I've got 3 sig's and I just got a glock for summer CCW.
Sig's are sweet as hell, but the 220/9 series are just too heavy/chunky for concealed carry outside of winter. The 239 is thinner and easier to carry, but if you compare it to a 229, it's almost the same size and not even 10 rounds. I just grabbed a glock 26 w/night sights for $550. 1.18" wide vs 1.2" wide (239) vs 1.5/6" wide on the (229) and unlike the 8+1 239, this will do 10+1. It's slightly lighter than the 239, much lighter than the 229, and less than half the weight of an average 1911. I'm still chasing the holy grail, but I think the glock 26 will put me closer to where I want to be than the Sig's ... regardless of how beautiful they are. edit- 124gr +P Speer Gold Dots are a phenomenal carry load. |

The only real problem you will have is; once you get the 1911, which you should!!! You will have two pistols that require your 1st born son in order to obtain good ammo in bulk.. I only have 2 pistols, 1911 and a Glock 19... I'd happily give up the glock for your problem. lol. Good Luck. Keep the SIG keep the Sig.. SIG + 1911 = Eternal Happiness |
