CZ hangun newbie here

J&G www.jgsales.com/has this pistol, I also saw it in Shotgun News:

CZ-75 B TACTICAL, 9mm Luger. Comes with OD Green polymer coated finish on frame and black on slide. Has safety, not decocker. Has two 10rd magazines. In stock. Includes a FREE Kershaw Vapor II steel folding knife with clip.

Questions:

What makes it "tactical"? The OD Polymer?

Would I want/need the decocker?

Why would this be roughly $50 cheaper than other CZ75s? Just supply and demand or is it not as  "good" a weapon?

Are Hi-cap mags as available and in the same price range as Beretta mags?

I'm asking because I have shot both the Beretta 92 and the CZ75B and am leaning towards the CZ as my first full-sized semi-auto (I have a .380) based on price. I'm just wondering if I should go for this deal. Thanks.

Yes, that's pretty much it.  "Tactical is a good marketing phrase, though a bit overused.

Would I want/need the decocker?
Depends if you want one or not.  If you want "cocked and locked" capability, then NO.  If you want a safer means to return the gun to a hammer down, DA condition and don't need C&L, then maybe.  The decocker is basically the same type of thing on the 92.  The safety on this one is the same thing as the safety on a M1911-type.

Basically supply and demand.  The polymer finish may also be easier and cheaper to apply on the gun, saving money in things like polishing, finishing, etc that has to be done with blueing that might not need to be done with the polymer.  CZ will also introduce new products at great prices to get the market interested and buying them.  CZ is a pretty customer friendly company, and it's easy for them to keep customers once they get you hooked.  In the end they will make more money off you and they know it.

Are Hi-cap mags as available and in the same price range as Beretta mags?
Yes, they are readily available and in the same price range.  Just make sure they actually fit in your gun.  Some of the CZ clone mags, like TZ, etc. may or may not work.  Factory mags are good.  They're drying up about as fast as any other factory hi-cap, but for now you can get them.  I'd get them now.  Even if the AW ban sunsets, they are low enough priced now that the actual cost won't be affected much.

If you've shot one, then you know what they are like.  They're a great choice.  This specific deal is about as good as you're going to get for the quality.  Some folks don't like green, but if you do, get it.

What he said!  I dislike the OD finish, but it's a great weapon at a great price.  I prefer the frame mounted safety to the decocker at any rate, as I am a "Cocked & Locked" afficionado.

Whatever trips your trigger, though.

Thanks guys.  I was leaning to CZ just on intuition and cost.  Nice to hear some experienced opinions.

I'd definitely recommend the CZ75 over the Beretta, although, both are great pistols.  I owned a 92fs a couple years back, and own a CZ75B now.  I find the CZ favorable on several factors:

Price.  Got mine new for $389.  Prices were a bit cheaper a year ago, but the CZ line is becoming more popular.

Slimness.  The grip definitely is slimmer than the 92fs.  Compared to a 1911 with normal sized grips, the CZ75 is just a hair wider in the grip.  The slide is a little more slender on the CZ.  The 92 is just very WIDE for a 9mm pistol.

Both are VERY reliable, so they're pretty equal in that respect.

On other points, my 92 was pretty damn accurate.  I liked the trigger a little more than the CZ (single action), but the CZ's ability to go cocked and locked is more favorable to me (being as I'm a 1911 guy).

Check out Gunbroker.com and search for CZ mags.  There's a guy that goes by reddogxx or something that sells hicap mags for about $26 each.  I bought a couple, and they work great. He actually sent me two for $45 shipped.

Hopefully with the ban sunsetting, mags will become more plentiful.  I love my CZ and think it is definitely a keeper.  Get one, you will NOT regret it.

CZ is an excelent hand gun,I have a CZ40- 40cal. and a CZ75 compact 9mm. Both are great guns and very accurate out of the box. If you are interested CZ has a very detailed forum. You will be very happy with your 75.

Before you get the decocker version, try the DA trigger. It's heavy. You can pull the trigger, but can you really hit well with that all-important first shot if it's DA?  If you find the DA pull OK, then go ahead and get the decocker version. Otherwise, stick to SA.
