I just got a CZ75 Compact 40 and the trigger is just gross.  First it's very heavy and it feels really gritty in SA mode.

The other thing I noticed was putting a round in the chamber, when pulling the slide with my off hand, it's heavy as well.  I'm sure that will get worn out with fire but I can't stand the trigger.

I've seen some pointers on the P01 trigger.  Any recommendations for the 40?

They would be the same.

Ditto. CZs are not known for fabulous triggers however there are smiths that do great trigger jobs on them. However I would get some real snap caps (I do not like the ones that come with CZs.). And dry fire it a lot an evening or two. It is good practice to dry fire any way and to practice your draw techniqes and so on. I would also make sure your action is clean. Blow it out with something. To me CZs are worth a little work because of the price and how they feel in my hand. My P01 had the worst trigger when I got it now it is better than my Beretta 92. All I did was change a spring and dry fire it. I did also clean the action out. Hope this works for you and you enjoy your CZ. When you get your trigger working smooth I bet you will want more CZs.

Here is a smith with a great reputation with CZs.

Put in a 16# or 17# mainspring and dry fire it a lot.

I'll try that.  Are you guys using Wolf springs?

Came back from a day at the range and I had about 10-12 FTE from about 50-60 rounds.  I got so frustrated, I put it away and shot my faithful SIG.  Are FTE pretty common in these CZs?

I do not have that particular model. All my CZs are completely reliable. My CZ in .40 is a .40B and I did replace the recoil spring with a Wolf 18lb and I would replace your main spring with a 16 or 17lb one and Yes I use Wolff springs in my CZs. It does sond like you are having a lot of problems for a CZ.  Below is a link that will have a complete forum on your particular model. I would advise you to go their and ask around. If a guy named Walt posts take his word for it because he knows what he is talking about. Are you using factory mags? You might also try some wolff +5%mag springs. Again I would go to the link below.

Wait a few hundred rounds (200ish) and see how it wears in before forcing changes.

I have a few fte with Wolf when it gets a rim the extractor does not like, but my 97B is absolute on anything else.

Failure to Extract is VERY common in CZ pistols but it has an easy fix. Put in a Wolff extractor spring. I have four CZ pistols and have experienced this firsthand. CZ's are great pistols if you go to the effort to fix their shortcomings.

CZ Forums...these guys are serious about CZs!

IMO most CZs are a bit undersprung when delivered from the factory, but with your compact, I would clean and oil it good and shoot it several hundred rounds if possible before doing anything else. The extractor spring may, indeed, be a good recommendation but I cannot say as I have never owned a CZ in anything except 9mm.

WWB: I just had a feeling.  :)

I would recommend different ammo than the WWB for your CZ.  Problems with WWB, especially in 9mm (but not unheard of in .40 caliber) is a common complaint that's raised over and over.  There's too much good ammo out there that you should try before giving up on the CZ.

I've avoided FTEs with my CZs by making sure I remove the extractor prior to the first range trip and thoroughly cleaning and "lightly" lubing the slot it sits in.  Cleaning the extractor in this case includes a rub down with 0000 steel wool where the extractor makes contact with the slide.

My CZ 75 Compact .40 shares carry duty with my P-01.
