One of my local shops has a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Target right now. I was fondling it this afternoon, and the gun felt amazing. Awesome trigger, felt great in the hand, slide was like butter, and the gun just looked outstanding.

I think it is an older model, as the rear sight is a fixed sight (fiber optic front) and the grips are black plastic. New ones, according to the CZ site have an adjustable rear sight and cocobolo grips.

Price on it is $1,050 with one mag and no box. I put it on layaway and have plans of picking it up next weekend, as I didn't have that kind of cash on me at the time (wasn't expecting to buy a gun today lol).

The guy showed me how to field strip it, and the insides looked good with some minor wear on the rails on the slide, where the frame meets it. Other than that, the outside was mint, no marks, no scratches etc. Said the gun was put in the case Thursday night, and I snatched it this afternoon. I will be calling the store Monday and getting the serial number, then contacting CZ so I can get a build date and all that good stuff.

Anything I should look for / inspect before buying? I will give it a once-over before laying down the cash, but was wondering if there is anything in-particular I should look at.

Also, if anybody wants to maybe show off theirs, and tell a little about it, go for it.

Sounds like a nice gun, a bit high on the price though. CZ custom sells a new one for close to that. Check out their website, czcustom.com. That model is on the front page.If the guy has the box, there should be a test target with the serial number and date it was built. They are heavy, well made, and tack drivers. Be careful when buying CZ pistols, after the first one, you will buy more.Hope that was some help for you.

They said it had no box or anything with it except the mag. I asked about it.

I am not 100% sure it is the shatow target, I was going off memory. I am hopping CZ will be able to tell me what it is from the serial number. The tag on the gun just said CZ 75 SP-01, but I remember seeing the word shadow or phantom on the slide. I also remember distinctly that it had the rail under the barrel.

The gun felt so natural and pointed perfectly, I figured I would put it on layaway for a week and do some research.

.....You can buy a -BRAND NEW- regular Shadow for $880, and includes 3 mags.
Check out CZ Custom for the various versions of the gun.

This. It's a great gun, but that price is way too steep, even if it was new.

That is what you described. The Shadow "Target" would have an adjustable rear sight.

The salesman said it was one of their custom shop ones. I am just going off memory. I know the non-custom ones are a few hundred bucks cheaper, and that's why I'm gonna check out the serial through CZ. If it is just a regular one, then I will call and take my name off it.

They did have a bunch of other standard CZ's in the case, so I do have a bunch to choose from, but this one felt the best. It was 9mm, and had an 18 round extended mag in it.

ETA: It was SA/DA, but no decocker.

Based on what my memory tells me, this looks to be the gun I was looking at.

If it is the Shadow Custom, I can verify that it is a sweet shooting pistol.  But on price, for $1230 shipped, you can have a brand new one from CZ Custom with three magazines.  To me, that means yours is only OK on price, but not great.  With all-steel construction, it should last forever, but for a savings of maybe $100, I would buy new.

That is assuming it is from CZ Custom.  If it is a regular Shadow, the price is way too high, as mentioned above.

Thanks for the input. I just emailed CZ with the serial number, let's see what they have to say about it.

Out the door, the gun is going to cost me $1,080 ish. If I were to buy 2 more factory mags, at 45 bucks a pop, that would bring total cost up to just under $1,200, so really, I am not getting that great of a deal.

Thanks allot for the info guys.

Still haven't heard back from CZ about the serial.

Went to the store today to see what else they had in stock, and ended up falling in love with an HK P30. I ended up taking the CZ off lay-a-way and will be buying the HK Saturday.

Thanks again

You will probably be happy with the HK, I've had a couple myself over the years.  The CZ was a little high anyway.  Honestly though, the CZ is in another class altogether, and you should really check them out if you make another purchase in the future.  If you are like me, you will forget all about the HK after some CZ trigger time.

I wont lie, I did like the feel of the CZ. I just think the HK will be a better fit for me. I was looking for a all-around gun. The only thing I like about the CZ over the HK was the light target trigger. The HK will be small enough to carry if need be, and can also be put to use as a nightstand gun.

Not to knock the CZ, as it was a really nice gun. I just felt the price wasnt that good for what it was, compaired to a new gun. It was just more suited as a target / range gun, and I was looking for something a bit more versitile.

When the day comes that I look for a range toy / target gun, CZ will be getting my money for sure.

The Shadow is generally intended to be a competition gun and price-wise is on the high end of the CZ offerings. If you wanted something more basic you could always get a standard 75B or 75B SA and the price would probably be less than the HK.

I looked at the others there, but I liked the feel of the HK more. Also, non of the ones they had came with a rail which I want for a light while using it for a nightstand gun.

I wish they had one of the 75 Tacticals, as I would have loved to feel that compared to the HK.

Next time, check out a CZ P01 if they have one, too.  Has a rail and is about the size of a Glock 19.

Ding, light-bulb!

I just remembered today that I have a connection at a distributor for CZ. I can get some of their handguns for the cost that gun stores pay. The only thing that would hold me back from buying like that is the fact that I would not be able to hold / fondle the gun prior to buying. Since I know I like the full size CZ's, buying from the distributor is an option right now.

But here's my problem. I really want the SP-01 Tactical due to it's rail and night sights. The only ones I can get are the SP-01 Phantom, which I don't really want due to the polymer frame, or the regular SP-01.

I just double checked the specs on the SP-01 and the SP-01 Tactical, and it looks like the only difference is that the tactical has a de-cocker, where as the SP-01 doesn't.

I will call and take the HK off hold, as I would rather get the CZ. That, and the price I can get it for is killer.

Thanks so much guys, I did you well!

ETA: Looks like the CZ 75 SP-01 will be the one I am gonna get

Just out of curiosity, what did it take to put those guns on hold like that? Did you have to put any money down?

I put an SP-01 on order from JG Sales a week or two ago.  No ETA but I'm excited.

No, no money down. They have two options. if you are gonna be in to buy the gun within a week or so, then they will "put it on hold" where no money is required. If you are going to be longer, than they will put the gun "on lay-a-way" which means you put money down as a deposit / to reserve it. In both cases, I was gonna be in to buy in less than a week, as I was just waiting for my federal tax check to come in.

And I am excited to get the SP-01 as well. It will fit all my needs, plus be cheaper than I wanted to spend. I was only looking to spend 800 to 900, and would pay a little more if need be for that special something. To be honest, I am glad I am not going with the HK. I thought about it overnight, and thought it really isn't worth that much to me.

Hope you get yours soon, I am so excited about the CZ.
