I've got a Mark I in .44, but found a GOOD deal on a Mk XIX barrel in .357.  Anybody know if they are compatible, or will I be wasting my money?

IIRC, Mk VII and Mk XIX are interchangeable.  Mk I's are not interchangeable with the other two.

Crap.  That's what I was afraid of.  Got the Mark I at a stupid-low price, was hoping I could make it more flexible by adding another caliber, cheap.

Oh well.

The only difference between a 1 and 7 is the safety levers, and the adjustable two stage trigger on the 7. The barrel/side/frame/bolt are all the same on these pistols.

The latest model has a wider slide and barrel (50 AE size) so that pistol is a dedicated parts pistol, being that the sub gauge barrels are all wider to fit the wider slide.
Note: the mark 7 in 50AE is really a newer model pistol.  On this gun, the wider barrel and slide where used from the start, and since to allow this model to use sub gauges, wider sub gauge barrels where introduced (what caused the new model of the pistol than just being a wildcat mark 7)

So a 1 can use a 7 barrel without problems, and all he would need to do is buy a 357 bolt and mag (besides the barrel).

As for wanting to take a sub gauge 1 or 7 to 50AE, then not only the barrel, but the slide would need to be changed as well (would change the gun into the new model)..
