My Glock 23 is showing some unusual signs of wear on the frame after ~1500 rounds. It appears the polymer has been scratched away in two sections under the barrel, leaving metal exposed beneath. My guess at the cause is that I have used a Storm Lake .40––->9mm conversion barrel specifically for the Glock 23. So, my guess is the sharp edges of the barrel block scratched away at the frame over time. Luckily, it has not yet affected function, as I qualified for my first TX CHL with this gun today 
With this in mind, if this were your Glock would you: A. Do Nothing, It should be fine B. Call Glock Customer Service to try and get it replaced** C. Call Storm Lake Customer Service and try to talk them out of a replacement frame or compensation ** My Glock is barely 1 year old Thanks! Not to hijack the thread, but if pics like that were posted about an FN pistol (or an XD or what have you), you Glock guys would be all over it for being a POS.
The real issue is the out of spec after market barrel. No manufacturer would cover that damage, and that's what it is, because it was caused by some non factory part. |

They can replace the frame at cost. Which is not too much. It is most likely not going to be a warranty repair. Then the OP can have a gunsmith fit the barrel properly and carry-on. My advice would be to pay for a frame-replacement from the factory, and then get a used G19 instead of farting around with aftermarket barrels. |

What I ended up doing was the following: As the firearm is going to be used for concealed carry, I want to make sure it is 100%, I can't have any doubts as to it's function if I am going to be carrying it around in public. So, I have contacted Glock and Storm Lake, I will be mailing my damaged frame directly into Glock to get a full replacement, which will cost me around $150. Storm lake offered to replace the conversion barrel, however I may take another poster's advice and simply buy a used G19 (or just the G19 Slide assembly) if I want to shoot 9mm. Thanks again! |
| Your not going to be happy when you get the new frame. It is going to look exactly the same. All of the Gen 4 guns have small voids in that area, but it dosent matter, because the steel in that area is what is important. The scratches arent from your barrel, its from your recoil spring scratching the sides when you remove and reinstall the slide. My Gen4 19 is exactly the same. I would send Glock pictures and let them tell you all this before I sent them $150. |
