I've search some, and googled more but haven't found any solid information.  Does anyone carry while commuting via bicycle?  I am trying to develop a carry method to work for me.

I want a solution to carry a gun, one mag, surefire, and some type of oc spray for animals (dogs mostly, wild animals will be taken care of with the gun if needed).  I will be riding anytime of day, and often later at night in rural areas.  I know everyone will suggest to just use my everyday setup, but when I get to family members houses, I stop carrying.  They know I do, but they don't want me to in their homes.  I am not going to stop visiting family.

My idea is to use a small pack.  I won't use a fanny pack.  I have looked at the maxpedition thermite versipack and I believe it will work.  It should hold a G17, mag, light, and spray.  I like the dual wear aspect of shoulder manpurse and waist belt.  Has anyone carried like this before?  I am having troubles finding a pitfall of my idea.  Also, does anyone have some experience carrying while biking that they can share?

Thanks!

Years ago I adopted a triangle pack for carrying on a bike.  I know off body carry isn't the best, but as one who can/has/will gone a$$ over tea kettle, I do not want to end up bouncing on a hard piece of steel.  The triangle packs are usually small, so I carry a single action AMT .380 backup.

I just rode 10 miles today with my family.  All of them riden while carrying my M&P 9c with a couple magazines.  The magazines were in my support side pocket and the cargo pocket.
(We were riding in the city of St. Louis... 'nuff said.)

google: 3speed holster and that's close to how I've converted my smartcarry holster to look like.

Very comfortable.  NO ONE knows I have it and unless there's a metal detector... and no one ever will.

Well I should say... they won't know until there's an extreme emergency which requires this tool to preserve a life.

I run a lot and I use pistol wear. It seems to work fairly well. I have run up to 15 miles while wearing this. The only draw back is that you will not be able to draw superfast but I have confidence my pistols is not going to fall out while I am running. It is made for those who are active in outdoor sports.  Here is the link. pistol wear

I ride all the time in a t-shirt and shorts carrying a Kahr PM9 in a crossbreed mini tuck.  Very comfortable and easy to conceal.

I recemtly got a Hill People Gear Recon kit bag to experiment with for trail running, mtn biking and fly fishing. I'm very impressed with it and it does "dock" with my camelback mule. They are a little pricey the quality is top notch and Evan from HPG was great to deal with. I think I am going to order another HPG bag and use it for a dedicated fly fishing set up.

I have one of these too and have been satisfied. I wear it while running.

I have the PistolWear as well.  Drawbacks are that if you have a larger gun it does tend to print a bit (especially if you added on any extra weight over the years like I have) and that the fasteners start to dig in after a couple hours.  Convenient though, and I'm surprised by exactly how fast I can draw from it!

In cooler weather, I have one of those 5.11 concealed carry jackets with one of their velcro fastened holsters in it.  More comfortable than the PistolWear, but can't draw as fast.

I wear a full coverage holster with a thumb snap (to protect the gun in case of a fall) OWB when I ride.  I can't ride my bike to work so it's just when I'm riding my mountain bike around town.

Depends on what size gun,but I use a 5.11 holster shirt under a normal shirt while biking. No printing and it breathes very well.I carry a snubnose in it but can easily put a full size 1911 in it with no problem.

5.11 holster shirt

If you search online, you get them much cheaper then what 5.11 sells them for.

I carry a fanny pack (which ... call it whatever you want, but anything that is purse-like with a belt to it is basically a fanny pack) from Eddie Bauer that doesn't crimp my style, as well, it juuuust fits my Smith & Wesson 915.

Great little set-up, and I can attach it to my rack if I don't feel like wearing that much on a long ride.   (although you're not going to get to it quick, but at least you have it with, better than leaving it at home)

I ride(mountain bike) in regular clothes.  Cargo shorts and t-shirt as opposed to the full Lance Armstrong get up.

I toss an M&P 340 into a cargo pocket and a couple speed strips in the other.  I used to do it with an SP101, but the 340 is much lighter and you won't notice it there.

Wait, is your solution to lock your bag to your bike with gun in it while at work or at family?

How you carry while moving is less of an issue of what you do with it when you get there.

I have ridden twice this spring with a pocket holster (shaped like a big wallet) with a PF9 in it in my back cargo pants pocket.  It works well for my frame and that pistol.

Camelbak used to make a fanny pack with a break-open pocket, complete with a holster, that is perfect for when I need to carry concealed on the bike.  There are no zippers or flaps, just pull it straight out and it opens.  Mostly though it's easier to carry open in an OWB holster.

if i am mountain biking i keep it in my camelbak, if i am running it goes in my shorts pocket never had any issues with it in my pocket. In the middle of summer i am sure as hell not wearing some kind of holster or fanny pack.

I would never leave my gun out of my possession without it being locked in a secure way with me having the only key.  I have secure storage at work and at my families houses.  I just can't be wearing the gun in those situations.

Thanks everyone for the info, I am going to search out a fanny pack as much as I don't want to wear one, I believe it will be my best option.

Crossbreed here too, G17.  I come off my bike (or quad) every time I ride, which is always off road.  Never had an issue, always comfortable & concealed.   Doesn't do much for keepin it dry when I dump the kayak tho.

Hope that helps.
