I was talking to some of the guys at the range last week after the club meeting and they said that they like the charter arms a lot. I havent had a lot of hands on with these so i just listened and figured i would ask. What are the good and the bad of these revolvers?

Based on my experience,  The Good:
1. Reliable
2. Lightweight
3. Broad range of available calibers (.22, 327, 38, 357, 44, etc.)
4. Multiple configurations
5. Fairly inexpensive.
6. CA has a very good reputation for customer service.

The bad:
1. Resale value sucks.
2. Trigger pull is heavy.
3. Revolver is dimensionally smaller than a J-frame, and can be a bear if you have large hands.

My experience is limited to the older models, but I would echo all of the above pros/cons. I've had several and haven't had a lemon yet. Also, I have smallish hands and the smaller size of their snubbies never bothered me at all...

I personally prefer S&Ws, but I've had good experiences with the Charters.

I just looked at one at my local gun shop that was used and you are right about the resale. They only want 225.00 for it and its a 38. I might just have to go back and pick it up. If i went to sell it and the retail was to low then i guess i would just have to keep it.

I have the 44 BD. My wife doesn't like it because there is an edge above the grip that bites her hand. I think its a great pistol for the money.

How heavy are their triggers?

Well, they are the only maker of a left handed double action revolver.  And for us southpaws, the Southpaw is a breath of fresh air.

My CCW is a Bulldog Pug .44 special and I dont leave home without it.  Its not pretty, but the cylinder locks tight and it is dead on at 15 yards.  I use Corbon 180gr along with the Blazer 200 gr "flying ashtray".  I will never carry a snub in .38 again.  You cant argue with a .44...

A .44 Bulldog was my very first CCW, almost thirty years ago.

'Twas my third revolver somewhere back in the mists of the early '80's. That one got away during a nasty divorce but I found a used stainless .44 Bulldog with bobbed hammer that I snatched up in a heartbeat. $300.

Has anyone had experience with the new pitbull? It is a .40 S&W that wors without moon clips. It seems like a great partner to math to my M&P 40 and 40c.

Will the .44 Pug fit a S&W K-frame holster and vice-versa?

I looked all over the SAR/X-roads show.  (2nd largest gunshow in the country) and didn't see a single example.  I don't think they really exist yet outside of a few copies sent to gun rags.

As of a couple days ago, my local gun shop has one sitting in the display case.  I'm intrigued, but I'm concerned about long term durability.

J-frame is a better fit.  I carry my Bulldog in a Nevada Leather J-frame holster.  Any 3" j-frmae will fit.  Size wise it's closer to a Colt Detective special than anything else.

My Bulldog resides in a Bianchi #5BHL. I think it was made for the bobbed Ruger Sp-101 but it fits mine well enough and the over-the-hammer-spur strap still works with it, so I am a happy camper.
