I am wondering what the quality of Charter Arms is. I certainly don't expect it to be a S&W. I am wondering if their revolvers are functional and reliable. I have a few other guns on layaway or on my list to purchase and would like a revolver and the price point is attractive. This would not be a primary defensive gun.

Really just something to play with at the range and be able to leave loaded for HD for extended periods of time without worrying about mag springs.

642 Smith and Wesson aren't that much more than a Charter Arms. Light compact go anywhere piece of security.

My experience with Charter Arms consists of handling exactly 1 gun at the local shop, so take it for what it's worth.

I was looking at a 5 shot aluminum frame snubby, don't know the model.  The trigger pull was so bad I swear it was broken.  It was without a doubt the worst trigger I've ever felt.  The owner of the shop just shook his head when I asked him about it.  Do go handle one before you buy.

Price diff on Gunbroker is around 50 bucks.....Save for one more payday and get the Smith. Just my opinion

A friend has one. Finish is a bit rough but mechanically it is sound.

A lot of folks won't buy a smith with the ugly wart on the side.

           My personal feelings are NO!
Buy the nastiest beat up ugly used S&W if it is a money thing but don't bother with the CA.
A lot of what enters into what makes revolvers wonderfull easy to shoot guns is a wonderfull trigger.
Generally all Smiths have good triggers and they are easy to turn into great triggers. Rugers although good solid guns have triggers that don't hold a candle to the Smiths. The rossi guns are somewhat worse than the Rugers and The CA guns are just reel rough.
If you buy a CA every time you need a odd part, holster,or a set of aftermarket or factory grips you will kick yourself
