Hello gents,

Picked up two brand new Check-Mate brand M-9 mags in a horse-trade.  Smooth, dark green parkarized finish.  15 rounders.

I've been told that some of these mags are junk and some are pretty good.

Is this true ?   How can I tell ? ?  Are they all junk ? ?

The ones I have seem to be of high quality, but what say you ? ?

Thanks  ! !

The best way to tell is use them and see.  I bought 5 that are dated 4/05 and they have been flawless in all my 92 series pistols.  I use them for IDPA.

Every single Checkmate mag I have used has been 110%. I have used them exclusively for IPSC & have dropped them on the ground, etc.

All of the stories you've heard were dealing with the sandy environment of the Middle East, so I wouldn't worry about them. Much like any brand mag, run several boxes thu them before you use them for CCL.

IIRC, the greenish mags are moly coated which was an improvement over the old rough, grey parkerized mags.  Moly coated mags came out around late 2004, I believe.  My moly mags came with alloy followers and stainless springs.  I have both parkerized and moly-coated Check Mates and they all perform flawlessly and they're built pretty well.

Ran the checkmate mags that I bought used on EE today in a steel plate match.  They worked flawlessly....which is more than I can say for the shooter.
