| I am wanting to purchase my first 1911. I have shot revolvers for 40 years but have only shot autoloaders a few times. I would like to keep the price reasonable but get a quality firearm. I guess I am asking what is the best bang for the buck in todays market |

Third vote for RIA. Check out Centerfire systems... |

Before this turns into a +1 thread for RIA, do you have a price point in mind OP? Do you want fixed sights or target sights? Does country of origin matter to you? Price point is open. I want the best quality/dollar. Target sights Of course I prefer USA made but not absolute. |

I guess I am asking what is the best bang for the buck in todays market Springfield Armory Mil-Spec is THE best 1911 for the price. One can also sometimes score a gently used Springfield in a bit higher model for about the same coin. I would also urge you to at least try to get into the $750-800 range on a 1911 IF you can as you'll get a much, much better gun there, IMO. My .o2 |

I would start first with the STI Spartan as mentioned above and then move onto the Springfield Range Officer. |

This is the order I would select my first 1911 cheapest to pricey: RIA $400 STI Spartan $600 Springfield range officer $800 STI Trojan $1000 Springfield TRP $1400 Dan Wesson Valor black duty $1600 Or if you really want to do it right Guncrafter No-Name $2500 This is a list I agree with. I would also suggest the Colt Combat Elite or the Concealed Carry Government for around $1000. Ed Brown also makes a helluva gun at the $2500 price point. |

Wow, it seems the prices of the Spartans have gone up a bit.
You can check out Brazos Custom and ShootersConnection. They both deal with STI, but it seems their prices are at $725 http://www.brazoscustom.com/Home.htm http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/STI-50-Spartan-45-Stocked-Item-P967.aspx Might have to up it to $800 |

They are holding at full MSRP; I guess that is better than jacking them up higher. I have to control the price because if I buy something and my wife likes it, I end up having to buy a second one for her. When she gave me the $700 limit I knew exactly why. |
