| On the show Personal Defense TV you always see Clint with a Springfield XD, do you think this is his personnal choice or does he shoot it because Springfield sponsors the show? I thought he was 1911 guy. |
| He is however in my reading, a 1911 man. He's also a .45 ACP or .44 special kind of man too. I do believe he does not like 9mm. But I have an article that he wrote about the XD and he was very favorable to them. He also is about the only gun writer I can read without getting irritated. |

I have had the good fortune to attend Thunder Ranh twice and I've seen Clint Smith carrying three guns at various times in the courses: an XD in .45, a Thunder Ranch 1911 (in .45, obviously) and what I believe were two S&W J-frames. He used both the XD and the 1911 to teach. Here are some pics from the first trip: Thunder Ranch |
Dude, you shoulda put that in either handgun discussions or AR discussions!!!! That's a dream of mine too. |
I only said that because I never go into GD and missed it. ![]() Great post though, thanks for sharing. Your lucky to have a good looking wife that likes to go shooting with you. It's hard for me to get mine to go. Someone has to watch the kids. I'll have to get a babysitter sometime. She got soured on shooting. The first time I took her to shoot a .22 pistol, I have a boisterous friend that came with who was rapid firing his .44 mag in the next lane and she just about came out of her skin, due to the noise. It was an indoor range. Has your wife shot for a long time? |
| I've been to two TR hangun courses and Clint was carrying a 1911 both times. This was in the early 1990s when TR was just getting started. Assistant Instructors at both carried 9mm Glocks and Clint spoke well of them, so I can see him making a move to the XD without much trouble. |
I know, my friend is a wild man!!! ![]() Congrats on getting her started. I'm sure taking her to a class like that probably helped. Especially if there were other gals around. Like Heidi. I think that's her name. Isn't that Clint's wife? |
It is! |

Thats really cool - not only going to TR, but going through with your wife. My wife is getting more interested in shooting more and in personal protection and readyness. Unfortunatly, I've only taken one course from Clint and Heidi and it was an 8hr AR course. I do remember, though, that contorted shooting positions were many. It challenges you to think outside the box to address problems |
