I've been looking for better ways to clean my USP .45f. Here are a some I have tried: -- Break Free CLP This stuff gets the job done but is very messy and easy to over-do-it with. It offers great protection but can get gummy in sub-zero weather. -- Kitchen sink A fellow officer uses hot water and dish soap in his kitchen sink on his glock and then lubes. I have tried this with my USP. It works. -- M-Pro 7 I really like this stuff. It gets everything really clean. The big question is what to lube with afterward. I like the fact it is toted as nontoxic. -- Tetra This is great stuff to lube with afterward. I think it would be great after an M-Pro 7 cleaning. The bottle says it is a fluropolymer. -- RemOil with Teflon. This is the stuff in the spray can from Wal-Mart. I use this on my 870 Wingmaster and other blued firearms. -- Hoppes No. 9 and other barrel solvents. Messy and very toxic. I'd like something that is non-toxic to use in the basement. Any ideas????????? mk |

If you are looking at a quicker way to clean a pistol, I subscribe to the idea that you get what you put into it. You could detail strip your pistol after every range session and know that your pistol is clean or you could do a quick wipedown and hope that your pistol is clean. I've found a happy medium with a field strip and clean with some solvent, CLP and some grease. I use either MPro7 or Hoppes #9 as my solvent. Then I use a thin coat of Militec1 or Breakfree CLP as my CLP. Finally, I use some TW-25B or Militec1 grease to finish lubing up my pistols. I've had great results from those products. I also use a Boresnake. I find that it really cuts down on my clean time. I spray some solvent in the barrel and run the Boresnake through a few times. I feel that Boresnakes are well worth it! The soap and water idea is pretty interesting, but I would be afraid that I wouldn't be able to dry the internals completely. I suppose that you could use an air compressor to really get in the nooks and crannies, but I would be too worried about not lubing or conditioning the metal internals enough. Good luck with your search! |

Personally, soap & water will NEVER touch ANY of my firearms. I found a new product that is non-toxic 7 is the cat's ass: Gunzilla. www.topduckproducts.com |
