Picked this up a few months ago from my father-in-law. It was given to him by an old lady setting up a tag sale. It was wrapped up in some old news papers. Serial number dates mfg date to 1906. I'm pretty sure its a type 1, but the grips/ finish combination are whats getting me. I didnt think the nickle finish came with the black grips. Mirror finish all around with scratches and fading on edges and corners from use. Great shooting little pistol.
Any idea its worth in its condition? Not selling, just curious.

Rampant Colt on Slide

This is the worst spot on it.

Nice old Colt, in my area $350-$400, I wouldn't be surprised to find a nickel pistols with different grips from that era.  A person could order whatever they wanted directly from Colt.  There could have been two in the store and a buyer may have liked the other grips better and had them swapped.

Nice, appears blue in the pictures you've posted. With fire blue trigger and safety.

Early and in nice shape except for missing screw. Finding really nice ones is hard and many were well used.

Good shooter grades run + $300 anymore, tons of abused ones on Gunbroker in the $350-450 range.

I'd put that one in the $450-500 range ( Early type 1 in VG + ).... New in box it would be worth a lot.

I have not seen a shooter grade 1903 on Gunbroker go for less than $450 for a while now, and I have been keeping an eye out for a decent one in the 50-80% range with no pitting. It is starting to look like I will need to just bite the bullet and spend the money if I want one.

OP:

If that is the original finish, and it looks like it from the rollmarks, it should get a premium over a blued version. The original finished blued examples I see on GB in similar condition go for $600-700 lately so......
