Local pawn shop has one of these.  I'd say the finish is pretty good(90-ish %), some slight holster wear, the barrel bushing finish could be better.  No dents or dings and hasn't been shot too much from the looks of the barrel hood and slide-to-frame fit.

The shop owner is asking $559, but I'm positive I could get him down another $30.

The pistol would be used as the basis for a custom pistol.

My questions is, is this a decent deal?  There's a Springfield 1911-A1 right beside for the same price.

I have a 1991a1, and have customized two others in the past. I've never owned a springfield, and as long as the frames and slides come from Brazil I never will. Brand new 1991's are going from 799.-899. in my area. With the used price of 1991's being equal to brand new 1911's from other makes I know they're tempting, but I'll always take a colt. I don't feel the same about ar15's though, because colt's are too much more then Bushmaster or Armalite go for.

Not a horrible deal.  If you're talking about the matte finish / plastic grip billboard rollmark 1991A1, these generally go in the $400-500 range.

But given the ever-increasing costs of new 1911s, $530 looks dirt cheap.

Well, I'm looking for a good base to have a 1911 built up the way I want it and not according to some manufacturer's specs.

This is the standard Colt 1991A1 (on one side) with Government model series 80 on the other side of the slide.  I figure I know I'm getting a forged frame and slide, forged slide stop and internals...which I figure wouldn't be too bad to build on.

It'd need refinishing I think as the current finish is uglier than homemade sin.

It really boils down to buying a used LesBaer TRS or getting a base Colt built up for me.

Just need to know if $559 (possibly $530ish) is reasonable.

Also, doesnt appear that this one had been monkeyed around with.  No WECSOG stuff (which is par for the course from pawnshops in my experience).

Yes, I think it's reasonable.  The swinging e-dick netcommandos will post that they can buy them all day long at $330 out the door, but that's not what I'd call a bad price at all.  I'd be happy selling mine for that, without feeling I'd ripped off the buyer.

The Colts do use some MIM (sear, for instance) but the parts seem to be solid.

Price is somewhat dependent on your area, the demand and the supply.  I bought one a few months ago for $550.00 and thought it a very good deal as I saw one similar the week before in another shop for $200.00 more.

I belive the disconnector, extractor and thumb safety are also MIM...but as ken_mays stated they are solid...well maybe I would change out the extractor if MIM.  I think it was only in the early 1991A1s.

Get it!!!!...you'll have a good shooter and base gun for what ever mods you want.  Preston

Very nice work

Similar alterations for mine except, fixed rear sight, front strap checkering, and propably an Ed Brown memory bump beavertail.

Neat thing is, I can always get more work done later.
