| A Colt Challenger, seems to be in pretty darn good shape, finish is great. What would you pay for one? I'm thinking about one in the mid $300 range....thoughts on it? |
| I had one a few years back. Nice gun. It was a bit hard to find magazines for but was reliable and shot well. I wasn't a fan of the grip angle and ended up selling it off. I think I sold it for around $300 in 85-90% shape. Not sure what they sell for today but I would think $350 is reasonable. Not a steal but not bad if you like the gun. |

mid-300s would not be bad at all. In fact it would be excellent
grip angle is what a lot of people like about these guns. The grip angle on the challenger is not as "luger-ish" as on the earllier woodsmans. Most find that the challenger's grips are very comfortable. Mags are not hard to get. It is a heel-release on the challengers. It is a very nice, easily shootable, gun that non-shooters warmup to and identify as their favorite out of a batch very quickly. Anything with a pony is semi-collectable, so pick it up before some guy with a dollar more gets nostalgic. You won't regret it. I'll post a pic up of my NIB challenger a little later, but if you search out the woodsman/challenger threads on here, you will find it |

Magazines for the Challenger and the rest of the Woodsman line are not only easy to find but cheap and plentiful. CDNN had NIB genuine Colt mags in stainless steel for $9.99 each up until a year ago. I bought and resold hundreds on Ebay until they banned magazines. Currently they have blued Colt mags for $19.99 that will fit both 2nd and 3rd series Woodsman. FYI- Beretta Neos mags are almost identical to the Woodsman and can be used with little or no modification. |

Do the mags from the all stainless .22 auto Colt (Cadet?) made a decade or so ago work in the Woodsman/Challenger series of guns? If so then I may have been making my search for mags unnecessarily difficult. They work perfectly. The Cadet used the same magazine as the Woodsman. A common problem is how you go about asking: "Do you have magazines for a Colt Challenger (or Huntsman) ?" "Nope, all we got is mags for the Woodsman" (Huntsman, Challenger &Targetsman were all "Woodsman" but didn't say that on the gun). You can't blame the guy behind the counter for not being knowledgable about a gun that went out of production in the '70's. Note that magazines for the 1st series will not fit 2nd or 3rd series Woodsmans. 2nd series mags will have a small notch cut in the mag body because the 2nd series used a mag release behind the trigger. This style mag release was not used on the Challenger or any of the 3rd series, all of which used a butt mag release. |

Very good info. It'll be next week before I can make an offer on the gun. These just seem to have a strong following by those who know about them. They rock. Colt's biggest mistake is not tooling up for CNC production and re-introduction of the Woodsman line. |

Well, it seems that US Firearms IS tooling up for their CNC production .....well, the 1st gen woodsman at least.

Quoted: Quoted: I just bought a 6" version for $350 out the door in 95% condition. The trigger is fantastic, and the pistol doesn't need anything done to it to be ready to rock. Definitely buy it if it checks out. ![]() Good lord! Thats great! PICS! This. I was trying to forget about the one I've been looking at since I bought an H&K first. But I may have to go pick it up before somebody else does. |
