I am purchasing a Colt Commbat Commander 1991a1-matte blue-LNIB. The serial number is CJ170XX. Does anyone have info on these. Such as the time frame of when it was made and also things I should look out for or replace?
Where can I find slim grips and good mags for it?
Any info. appreciated.
Thanks.

Awesome pistol. I don't have mine anymore. I wish I had it back!

The only problem I had with mine was a bad extractor. Probably just needed a little bit of tuning. I dropped in a Wilson Combat extractor, and all was right in the world. Great shooting gun.

What are you going to do with it?  Carry, just shoot?

Colts "O" package comes to mind.

It's going to be the home defense, SHTF and range gun. Might carry in the future.
What is the Colt "O" package?

It is an outstanding gun. In fact it's my favorite handgun and is my daily personal carry gun. I've had mine for about 10 years and will not give it up for anything. I will advise you to check the trigger. My Commander came with an (approx) 8 lb trigger pull. Don’t ask me why. I’ve had to replace the recoil spring after about 25,000 rounds. Everything else is fine.

I’ve added night sites, trigger job and extended beavertail grip safety and that’s probably all I will do to it. I like the regular safety and mag release since it’s a carry gun.

I have two holsters I normally use. I like the Safariland IWB model 26 and the Galco Quick Slide Belt holster. The Safariland is so comfortable that I use this most of the time, summer and winter.

Other then that, get yourself some Wilson Combat mags and you’re GTG.

I don't remember the specifics, but they install Novak sights, do a carry bevel, trigger job I think.  Basic carry package.  But done by Colt.

For me the CCO and the Commander are the best carry, shtf 1911's.

Mine is #CJ254xx, mabie five years old. Don't know about the born on date. I do like mine fine though. My trigger is not too tough, crisp enough. I did find the firing pin stop to not be well fit. I sent my slide to Novak's for sights and a firing pin stop [they used a Brown drop in]. Thats all this one needed and its a keeper for sure. Hope you luck out also.
