I still plan on buying the Lightweight Government model, but I just ran across one of these.
From what I have found out they were a model made during the transition between Series 70 and Series 80 so you will find them in both configurations. It is a predecessor to the Combat Elite but is all carbon steel. Anyone have one or can provide a bit more insight? The one I am looking at is in pretty good condition but someone has swapped the hammer (unless some of them came with a Commander style hammer) and added an older style drop in beavertail grip safety. It also has an arched mainspring housing which I think is correct, but I am not sure. It has a serrated front strap similar to a Gold Cup or Combat Elite. If it has been buggered a bit I will have a real beavertail fitted and better sights of some sort. eta: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=288439124 I bought it. Now I have to decide what to do with it once it arrives. I don't know if I paid too much or not, but I am not really worried about it. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

They never really took off from a sales perspective...I have heard people say they were expensive for what you got back in the day and that was really the drag on them....I saw a like new one 70 series on Gunbroker recently. I bid on it early and ultimately passed on it...was re-listed at a lower buy it now and sold for $1000. here is linky thing to listing ...owner claims it was unfired....
