On this pistol I got to combine a couple of my favorite things... a classic Colt Commercial Government Model and a traditional two-tone finish.

I’ve always liked the traditional styling that a two-tone gun provides and to me it is almost always the obvious choice when building a Commercial Colt of this era.

This gun was also a gratifying collaboration between the owner and I... he had certain needs and requirements for the build and he let me temper them with ideas for parts or certain modifications. I started with a weld-up frame and slide fit and added a Kart barrel fit to an EGW NM barrel bushing that was finished in hard chrome to match the frame. The slide top was flattened and serrated and fit with a modified Heinie rear sight and our Gold Line front sight. The frame got an EGW grip safety swinging on a Wilson Combat Bulletproof ambi-safety and the front strap was hand-checkered at 20lpi as was the S&A mag-well and extended and angled magazine release. I shortened the slide stop pin and chamfered the pinhole and serrated the rear of the slide to match the rear sight.  The slide is finished in traditional polished bluing and the frame is finished in the aforementioned hard chrome and fit with stocks from my pal John Van Zyck at VZ Grips. Enjoy the pics!

Looks great. Of course I love two tone guns especially with a dark slide.

that sure is pretty.

hopefully a pistol of that caliber will get a lot of range time. I hate it when 1911's are so awesome yet live in a safe.

Fantastic workmanship! I'll take one....minus the checkering/magwell/beavertail/hammer/ambi/3 hole trigger.

That is a beautiful pistol.  A true work of art.  Dark slide over lighter frame is the only two tone I ever really cared for.

The 1911 part of me is thrilled.

The retro part of me has been rekindled.

The $$$ part of me feels inadequate.
