A local shop took one of these little 1911s in trade. It is blue with a well-worn finish. They are asking $600 for it.
Only thing it doesn't have is a grip safety. When did Colt stop making them?
What would make this little pocket gun worth so much? Are they rare?

I posted this in the Colt forum but got no replies.

The Colt Government and Mustang .380s are expensive because 1) they are discontinued, and 2) they are well made.

Be advised that the safety does not lock the slide as on a 1911.

I love both of mine, but I got them both new for about $350 (each). I don't know what they're going for now, but I didn't get any $600 offers when I tried to sell it on Gunbroker earlier this year.
Great little pocket pistols, fun to shoot and etc.

Oh, I suppose I should post a pic, eh?

I own one of these little Colts a Goverment Pocketlite .380 that I carry concealed and to my surprise I saw one at a gun show this past weekend and the guy was asking $995.00 for it I nearly hit the floor... I ask why and he told me they were discontinued and they were only made for 2 yrs. '96 and "97 I believe, and they have become collector items,as well as them being sought after because of the quality and ease of CCW.

Now I'm thinking I may look for me another CCW handgun and put mine up in tha safe for safe keeping I have the origanal hard case and every piece of paper work that came with it including the price tag which I paid $365.00 OTD.

Mine is exactly like yours Wyzardd same pearl grips and all....COOL

The SS w/pearl is the one the wife took away from me. I went out and bought the blue the next day and she let me keep that one.
I just got a DeSantis pocket holster for it, after howevermany years of carrying it any old way. Don't think it'd work in Levi's, but it's perfect in dockers-type pants.

I feed it Remington Golden Sabres, greedy little thing gobbles them right up.

Sounds a bit high, esp. given its condition.

I have one.  They are neat little pistols that are simply fun to shoot.

However, internally they’re quite a bit different than a full size 1911.  Most of that difference IMHO is to allow for cheaper manufacture.

My biggest complaint about them by far is that (in my experience) they are less accurate than a Sig P230/P232 or a well made Walter PPK.

Unlike Sigs and Walthers with their fixed barrels, the Colt has an unlocking barrel similar to a 1911 which is fitted rather sloppily.  (One of these days I’m going to fit an oversize muzzle bushing to mine to try for better accuracy.)

On the plus side, that unlocking barrel makes for a gentle recoiling handgun.

I’d really love to see one of these made in .22 LR and with a fixed barrel, but that isn’t going to happen.

Biggest down side to these little guns is getting parts if anything breaks.

My brother has had one for years (Gov't, not Mustang) and it's easily one of his favorite pistols.

I'd have one myself, but they're damned expensive now so I'm just re-building and old Llama III-A that's been collecting dust for 20yrs.

You know I ordered an ejector from Numrich gun parts a few years back and I just went back to the site and many parts are still avalible at "Numrich gun parts corporation" if anybody wants to check their supply out. Many things are sold out though and that SUX.

Sweet little guns. Shoulda bought the one I had a line on when I could. I bet a locked breach, reletively heavy .380 has pretty mild recoil.

I have had 2 and hated both.  They worked well but would not put 6 shots on a paper plate at 15'.  I personally like the PPK better.  I found a small Star single action auto in 380 that is just like the Colt except much less money.

I sold a really nice one on EE here a couple of years back, but I can't remember what I asked for it.

Nice little gun...

The Star Model "S" -- slimmer than the Colt and no grip safety, but a great, reliable, and greatly under-appreciated (IMO) little gun.  That was my wife's first carry-gun, way back when.

That's weird... Bad year, maybe? I suspect Colt of having less than stellar QC on occasion. My two were bought within a week of each other and both are ... well, they're not what I'd call tack-drivers, but they can hit a plate at 15.

I had two a couple of years ago, both were jamomatics. Tried  diff ammo and fluff and buff but still not 100%. I traded them in on two SW sigma 9, which ran fine but I didn't like the triggers so I traded them in on a XD45c in D.E. which is a great gun and sit next to the night stand for things that go bump in the night..

The little Llama .22lr/.32/.380 1911-ish pistols look neat also, esp since they have a grip safety.  But the rep re Spanish pistols (esp Llama) & parts availability have kept me from buying one.

Neat little guns when you can find one that runs properly, or find someone that can make it run properly.  Absurdly overpriced on the used market though, I've yet to see one for under $500.

The Colt Pocket Nine was another slick little Colt gun that was discontinued, due to a lawsuit if memory serves, that now goes for stupid prices on the used market.

I sold one for $475 in 05', wish I asked for more! :D

The gun was fun, but the action was gritty, there was no aftermarket support, no factory support either, and the trigger was HEAVY.

Really accurate though, even with the heavy trigger. Best shooting .380 to date because the gun isn't a blowback design. Super low recoil, it was great for teaching new people with small hands.

I sort of wish I kept it, other times I don't really mind that it's gone. But it was a fun little pistol.
