I have one of the WWI models and am kicking myself for not picking up the WWII model when they were available. I wonder how many have passed them off as real WWII Colts to the uninformed for big $$? It took me a while to find it. The odd part was Colt stopped production short due to no demand... I might use it as a base and build a modern MEU with it. Haven't decided wether to use it or buy a beater GI...
On the other note, I would hope that nobody was stupid enough to mistake a Repro for the real deal. The WMK should tip ya off. |

They stopped due to no demand? Most of the the Colt's that hit my local gun counters are gone in a week or so. Doesn't seem to happen with any other brand. Hard to believe, at least around here. I hear ya... It was supposed to be 4k like the WW I's but I think production stopped in the 2k range. I have a local watering hole for Colts so I am lucky. |

The WW2 repro was nowhere as nice or as "correct" as the 1911 one. Also, there were, at the time, real GI 1911A1s around for about the same price in good shooting condition. Colt did a far better job with the 1911 then the A1 and it looked far better to boot. Agreed across the board... The park is also lousy and spotty... |

Funny thing is, I've seen the same bleh park job on the few A1s I've seen also. However, the cheapo 1991 I own has a GREAT park job that I cannot fault so Colt does know how to park. |

My 1991A1 Commander is a very solid 1911, especially for the money. |

I have a nice old Colt Army. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a368/DEG169/1911/coltarmy.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a368/DEG169/1911/B.jpg I'm thinking the original, with its oil quench heat treat of the slide front and factory mix of blued and parkarized parts throws the "spotty" finish arguement out the door,,, |

What are the 1918s going for these days? There's one at a local shop that they're asking about $900 for. At least I think it's a 1918, I haven't looked closely at it. Thats the market and actually slightly on the low side. 900-1k is what I have seen. The Carbona blued ones seem to fetch an extra 100 or so... |
