I received a Colt XS Lightweight Commander in a trade.  I have been unable to get information on this pistol.  I have found plenty of information on the XSE.  Could anyone help me out with what I have?  It appears unfired, should it be left that way (hard to find piece or is it a something common enough to shoot?

The XS was only out a little over a year.  Colt used parts from other manufacturers for the grip safety, ambi thumb safety, and sights.  I know the grip safety was made by Caspian, possibly the thumb safety too.  They had to come up w/ something to compete w/ the Kimber and Springfield Loaded as far as "factory upgrades."

When Colt started making their own small parts, they renamed the pistol XSE.  You can get some more info searching over at 1911forum.com

I picked up a stainless Government XS last year.

I bought a Government model when the XS series came out in 1999. I paid $575 out the door. A collector would pay you a slight premium for one due to the handfitting that went into the piece. In addition to what the previous posters have said, I believe that C-more made the Novak-style sights on the XS series. Personally, I would shoot it.

I forgot to add, I believe the hammer on the XS is made by Chip McCormick.
