| I have a brand new Colt XSE Combat Commander. I took it out the other day and the first mag wouldn't feed the first round off a 7rd Wilson Mag of 230 WWB ball. Then it ran ok for a while with WWB and some 230gr Hydra-shoks. I switched over to see how it liked Cor-bon 185+P's and again it wouldn't feed the first round off a 7rd mag. Once I popped the first round out, it fed them all fine. I put about 80 rounds through it and it still doe not want to feed the first round off the mag, It will push the round about halfway out of the lips and stovepie right against the ramp. Do I need a heavier recoil spring? The Wilson mags are reliable in every other 1911 I've had and this particular mag is almost new so the springs are not weak in it. Any idears? |

I had the same issue with mine. I put the stronger Wolff springs in it, and that sure helped. But, what really 'fixed' it was a proper break in. Mine nose dived the hollow points. If you pull the slide back after it nose dives, and let it go, will it feed the round? Like I said, mine stopped doing it after around 500 rounds or so. After that it was perfectly reliable. |
Nope, I'm not riding the slide. I am attempting to load the first round using the slide release. I will try a 20# wolf recoil spring and see if it helps. I plan to dump a few hundered rounds downrange but I HATE picking my brass out of 3ft of snow and I just can't stand not to pick them up! The stock recoil spring is only 16 pounds, maybe that's part of the problem?

I have it lubed real wet with CLP. I wonder if the extractor could have too much tension on it? The Cor-Bon 185+P's appear to be the most badass 45acp round for defense yet, but if they won't run in my gun, I will look for something else, Gold Dots maybe? |
Exactly as I had said before, I had the exact same problems, especially with hollow points. It just needs a proper break in. Fire around 500 rounds or so and the problem should cease. |
That is what I'm thinking... Try this: Load the Wilson mag, and the Colt mag. Hold them side by side, and check the angle of the top rounds. Maybe the Wilson mag lips allow too much elevation. |
