Anyone seen or shot one of the LW Commanders ? If so, what were your thoughts on it ?
Thanks for any input .. |

P2 who posts here has one (that he bought out from under me, the bastide) and i have probably put 100 round or so through it in a couple range sessions. It is a very nice pistol, recoil is greater than a steel frame commander and definately more than a full siza 1911, but not uncontrollable.
One thing I will mention about P2s is that he got some stains on the top of the slide and side of the frame off his leather holster after only minimal holster time (I don't remember the holster brand but it was a decent one). Colt is gonna remedy it for him on their dime but a stainless gun shouldn't pick up stuff like that in this short a time. |

I've had one for a few years and have about 2k through mine.
Recoil is definitely greater than a steel one. It's not much fun to shoot for long. I have carried mine in a leather holster and haven't had any of the problems noted by the poster above. Mine had some initial break-in issues. It would not feed with Tripp or Wilson mags until about 500 rounds. It would feed just fine with the stock Colt mags. After 500 rounds it has been flawless. The extractor also needed tuning when I first got it and contributed to some FTF issues. After those initial bobbles it has been absolutely flawless for 1500 rounds. Like I said, it's a bit of a handful to shoot, especially with +P rounds. Due to the recoil I tend to carry 185grn standard pressure JHP loads in it. |

It took almost exactly 500 rounds to get the bugs worked out of my XSE LW Commander. Initial problems were FTFs and it would not feed anything but FMJs. I did replace the stock recoil spring with a Wolfe (same 18# weight) and added a recoil buffer. It feeds and ejects fine now with a variety of ammo. I carry it daily stoked with Hornady CD loads and the only thing I would change is the sights.
I think it is definitely more of a carry piece than a range piece, but I am very satisfied and confident with it. |
