Hey guys I need help! In September I plan on buying a Colt 1911 and cannot decide which one. I have been looking around but I am not seeing many at lgs in my area. I have narrowed the search to 3 and need suggestions on which one.
1. Colt XSE blued 01980XSE
2. Colt XSE blued aluminum frame 01880XSE
3. Colt 1991 CCG (Talo) 01991CCG

I have not been able to find a CCG locally; I hope at large gun show in Sept they will have one. I should be able to get one of these for less than $1000.

Which one do you guys recommend? How much did you pay for yours and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I strongly recommend the CCG.    The one I have is noticeably more accurate than other Colts I own of recent vintage.   The slim grips are one thing that some people may not like, but nobody apparently uses the stock grips on their 1911s anyway.

This is from 20 yards.

What should I expect to pay for a CCG?  I have not been able to find one locally?

I paid $1050 locally.  This is not out of line from what I have seen.   No doubt you can do a little better if shop around online.   However when it comes to Colts I put a premium on being able to inspect them locally.

The 01991 CCG is a nice pistol; I almost wound up with one.

If you want a Series 70, The Wiley Clapp Government is not to be beat...in my mind. The finest carry pistol that I've owned. And, my first one gets back from Alchemy tomorrow!

There just might be one listed in the EE, if you take a look.

How does the WC shoot?   That's edging close to semi-custom territory.  I would have to insist on a properly fit match barrel at that price or above.

It's got a national match barrel from the factory.

True information. Mine are wonderfully accurate, even for the combat style sights.

Given that Pete Single did the trigger guard undercutting, the 25lpi checkering, and the bar stock MSH, I reckon it's a good value in that pistol.

The best thing for me about the WC are the airfoil "tactical oval" grips. It seems that a lot of folks don't care for them, but they work wonderfully for me.

The fit is more important.  Hopefully no movement when pressing down on barrel hood while in battery, or movement at the muzzle.

I finally got my hands on an O1980RG, and am VERY happy with it. I know Rail Guns aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I love mine. All of the models listed above are great guns, I'm sure you'd be happy with any of them.

Concealed Carry Gov't

It doesn't have any special rollmarks, just the typical M1991 rollmarks.

Nope, but almost any aftermarket safety is better quality than the factory Colt part anyway.

With your budget, hold off until you get another 50-100, and get the 01991CCG; you won't regret it.

Thanks for advice I agree!  I plan on going with the CCG!
