Been thinking about getting one, but after shopping around I'm a bit confused.
Some appear to go for around $800-$900 but then there are some that are going for $1000 plus.  I need a quick education.  I'm kinda wanting an older blued model, maybe series 70.

Just bought one (Series 70 blued) on GB for $835, probably in 95% condition.  I think it was reasonably bought.  No box.  I think around $900 is the going price for my gun in its current condition. The box and manual appear to be worth $100+ additional.  The NIB, unfired, pristine, etc. Series 70GCNMs seem to list for $1200+ on GB, but I don't see many of them sold.

An hour ago, I looked at a Series 80 GCNM in a local shop tagged at $799.  Probably in 98% condition.  I believe that Series 70 GCNMs command about a 10% premium over similar Series 80.

I suggest that you research Gunbroker and see for yourself what's being sold for what price.  There's a lot of high dollar listings that don't sell and just get repeatedly listed.

Price to sell, $8-900, priced for lookie lou's, $1000-1200.

Listing and selling  are two different things.

Thanks, I have been looking on gunbroker. I just wanted some opinions before buying. It looks like I'm on the right track.

I've owned 3 series 80 Trophy models, and fired a 70 series national match. IMO only, the older guns had slightly (albeit hard to tell) better triggers due to lack of 80 series safety parts. The older guns often had problems with the Elliason rear sight coming loose. New guns have the Bo-Mars and are much better sights.
If you go the new route, check out Bachman Pawn and Gun in Texas or Bud's Gun Shop as those two usually have the best prices.
I've owned many Colts and if I had to do it again, I'd buy a new repro series 70, replace the barrel bushing with one from EGW, maybe a trigger job, and you've got a gun that'll shoot just as well as any Gold Cup. YMMV
Good luck.

Be prepared for the Elliason sight mounting pin to shear shortly after use, and eventually the front sight will become loose. I have three Gold Cups, and they all did it.

You might also check out the Colt Combat Target.  It's a poor man's Gold Cup.  It doesn't have the sear depressor lever and spring but otherwise it's all Gold Cup; it just lacks the high polish blue.

It also goes for significantly less than the GC.

I bought one for $800 a month ago. Mine was a 70's model with some hard use but some added features. I love it! Most accurate centerfire pistol I own. Shoots groups 1/2 the size of my Springfield Loaded 1911.
